Right, I'm with you.
I'm sure Damon lies awake at night wishing he wrote I Wanna Hold Your Hand...
I grew up listening to Blur, I love them (even though Damon was once capable of writing a song like Charmless Man). I also grew up hearing the Beatles- I am old enough to remember John Lennon's death and how upset my parents were about it. But all the stuff that I heard never interested me much. It still doesn't, although Jo's dad played me half a side of Revolver some years back which I thought was excellent.
Of course, it sounds ridiculous to say that Blur are better than the Beatles, especially seeing as the Beatles are widely regarded to have invented popular music. But I think a lot of the Beatles stuff, the stuff that I heard as a kid, was trite bollocks.
And, of course, the English tendency to wheel out Sir Paul at any major celebration really pisses me off. One day he'll die and it'll probably be at that massive piano, between Buckingham Palace and thousands of Union Jack waving idiots as Let It Be fades away into a horrified silence. I will laugh my head off.
