Big Willie my first year at uni began about three weeks after the whole Country House v Roll With It battle for number 1. As a Londoner in Leeds and therefore up north, it was very difficult not to get sucked into the whole thing and I spent countless evenings being told how much better Oasis were than Blur.
Damon Albarn has more musical ability in his left hand than Oasis had within the entire band. I think that much is obvious by now - throw in possibly the greatest guitarist of his generation in Graham Coxon and Damon's refusal to rest on his laurels and it's clear to me Blur were playing an entirely different game to Oasis.
In any case, the true winners of 1995 were Tricky, PJ Harvey and Pulp; different class, so to speak.
