Yeah I've seen him a couple times too, serious acceleration and must be an utter nightmare to play against. Would be good to have someone in the squad who loves burning defenders with pace, we don't have anyone bar Bellerin and Ox who both don't do it nearly often enough

That said I don't think I can think of a player/profile that Wenger detests more. Portuguese/expensive and very much willing to take risks

Plays so much like Cuadrado. Looks really decent.

I'd forgotten about that.

Chilean journo who's apparently legit

The prospect of him staying has me far more excited than any of the transfer rumours.

Exactly.

sanchez staying would be the biggest madness of all

That'd be great, he's the only player I'm really worried about leaving. Maybe Bellerin to a certain degree, but he's replaceable. Özil doesn't even seem to have that many interested parties.

He'd be like a new fucking signing

could be mad jens as well

With all the talk re the likes of Mbappe, Lemar, Mahrez, Jorginho, Koretzka, Carvalho, Martins it certainly is the more interesting summer list for some time.
Just need a GK (saw us linked to Green).

In many ways it looks like a rip shit of bust type window on the horizon.
What makes it better is seeing Conte & Mourinho sweating on anything happening re their clubs & would love to see us have a better transfer window than the usual suspects.

It all just makes me worry that Alexis is gone. Until he commits for next season or the window closes with him still here I can't consider it progress.

Robert Green? Wtf

I'd say if it was so then he'd be nothing more than an experienced back up if Martinez was to remain as #2.

I'm not saying that it's progress, just that the names linked are more interesting than usual - lots of young talent that's on the verge of possibly becoming something special, rather than the experienced heads and developing players.
None of those named could be classified as development projects, and none are in their twilight or late bloommers like Arteta, BFG, Podolski, Kos or Giroud - all these guys are legit starters on merit.

Rumours we have enquired for Fabinho, would rather him than Lemar if we are going Monaco. Would be a quality signing for central midfield, which we absolutely need to improve on.

Signing Fabinho would put a positive spin on this summer for me. He's twice the player compared to any midfielders we've got.

If we signed Fabinho, and held the rest, I'd give Wenger an A.

Barely been a link to him this summer. Can't imagine it's because we don't want him but more likely that Jorge Mendes knows we can't pay like a few others can.

Despite all the talk of them being dismantled Monaco have yet to actually sell anyone bar Silva.

to be fair, its also precisely one week into the transfer window

Not much of a link, but it does seem we could be in for a keeper this summer given the uncertainty around Szczesny and Ospina.

Lafont is very highly rated, I've read lots of good things about him, but when I've seen a bit of him myself he's made some dodgy errors. Obviously to be expected given his age - playing in Ligue 1 when he was just 16, still just 18. One to keep an eye on. Same report also says we've scouted Stephane Ruffier of Saint Ettiene.

Yes and yes. I loved watching Goretzka play at the Confederation Cup. He would greatly strengthen our squad possibly and possibly the first XI as well depending on how quickly he took to the League and how he develops. He'd give Ramsey and Xhaka something to think about and we don't currently have anyone else that can do that. This kid is fantastic in transition and has serious quality and efficiency in the final third. I really like the little I've seen of him.

He only has a year left on his deal so if Schalke refuse to sell - and that is very much their stance at the moment - in January we can start negotiating with him over a free transfer for next summer. Although, there are strong rumours he's already agreed an under the table deal with Bayern for next summer.

Surely Schalke would rather take the €20-30m we're reportedly offering now than lose him for nothing to those crooked bastards in Munich at the end of the season? If we could get him for ca €25m then it would be a incredible price in this market, which probably makes Bild's story more credible.

he looks good. with ramseys injury history and el neny going to afcon, i fear an extended spell with coq and xhaka in the team, which is the worst partnership we have

His price would have risen as a result of the Cup - we may do better to look to the likes of Milinkovic-Savic or perhaps even Kondogbia?

AFCON is no longer an issue, will be played in June/July

that's the 2019 tournament, not the 2017 one

Gazza M wrote:

So from 2019 it will always be played in the summer? Or is it just for the 2019 tournament?

That's huge, I've always wanted to avoid signing African players because of the AFCON but this change brilliant, it makes so many more players desirable and viable.

Gazza M wrote:

Wait, 2017 AFCON tournament? Hasn't that already been done and dusted?

Gazza M wrote:

It has already been played this past January. Cameroon defied all odds to win it

Gazza M wrote:

2017 one is already done, 2018 one is only for the African domestic league players, and 2019 onwards is from June.

They are moving the AFCON to June?? I pity the players who are going to play in Egypt in the summer!

Dumber than moving it to June is making it 24 teams. Blind greed. The only country that can competently host a 24 team tourney is South Africa. And maybe Egypt/Morocco

I always thought one of the main reasons the CAN was played in january was because you couldn't do it during the wet season in western and southern Africa.
