I'd love to see him start both, given his lack of playing time I'd imagine he'd find the energy for it somehow. A Walcott - Alexis - Lucas front three is what I would go for against Chelsea but you can bet your house that Wenger will pick Iwobi for that game.

I would be very happy with Lucas, Iwobi and Alexis too. Lucas is good on the ball but he likes moving in behind also.

I appreciate what Giroud brings but we obviously play very differently with him up top obviously. We can't be changing the way we play from one match to the other. That's why he needs to be plan B.

Else, Giroud is starting both games for sure.

It goes both ways though, the less you play the less match fit you are. I think starting three games in a week is a tall ask for Lucas. I'm not sure he has even made three consecutive appearances for us yet.

We definitely need to get him into the team soon though. He has end product galore and a lot of the attacking intelligence that we're otherwise missing. Starts against Chelsea and Hull would be a good way to do it, and then we could evaluate whether he's got enough left in the tank for Bayern away.

I'd start him at Chelsea and Bayern, he presses very hard and that's what we're lacking in those games but at the same time he never played three games a week nor did he play consecutive matches for something like eight months, use him sparingly.

Play Giroud at home vs Watford and Hull where the fans can sing Beatles songs to stimulate him. Also he's much more suited to barging into your Huddlestones and Kabouls rather than outsprinting your Boatengs.

Playing Giroud away to Chelsea is going to be painful. Hope he plays here and gets benched over the weekend.

If we play Giroud against Chelsea, we pretty much give ourselves the least chance to succeed there.

Tactics

In the absence of Xhaka, we have to play either Giroud or Welbeck IMO. Giroud is an absolute NO for me, therefore, I hope Welbeck starts. Can't go into that game only relying on our 2 CBs to deal with their aerial threat. We've lost so many games to Chelsea over the years through simple long balls/corners/free-kicks despite having the better of the play.

I'd say if we play Cazorla in goal, while injured we give ourselves less chance.

85% that's the team that plays against Chelsea too, maybe only Bellerin in for Gabriel.

I think Wenger is rotating well, regardless of what we think about Giroud up top. It's a shame we are so far behind Chelsea. Just in terms of sheer numbers we are doing quite well as a squad for February. If we can keep the squad fresh, it will make up for the loss of quality in depth in some areas. The pace of the game in the League drops as the season goes deeper and it suits us.

Welbeck was limping before being subbed against Southampton. I'm not surprised he's been completely omitted. I hope it's not a relapse.

Welbeck is obviously rested, it would be daft to risk him when we have plenty of option on the bench anyway.

For the record, I'm almost certain that Giroud will be dropped for Chelsea, but tonight's subs will give us a decent idea if we're winning comfortably.

That's what people said last season before we played City. I think the fact that Welbeck is not on the bench in telling. As I said, he was limping against Southampton and there is no way he will be starting against Chelsea.

As for Giroud, if he bags a couple tonight, it would be impossible to drop him against Chelsea. The fact that Alexis is wide doesn't bode well for the weekend.
It's been a while since he actually led the line.

I agree. It would be just like Wenger too. Always good for a compromise instead of committing to something fully.

I think so too. I think we will see Sanchez back up top with Theo wide.

Welbeck was never going to start the Chelsea game so I'm not sure why people think there is anything to his absence. He's been out for a very long time. Obviously while he doesn't have to Wenger wont want to rush him.

I'm happy with tonights team. Hope Bellerin is back for the weekend though.
