I don’t believe that what happened today was incompetence. No-one is that incompetent. We should file a criminal complaint. Never seen anything so blatant in my life.

JazzG I think so too. I feel this is pay back for pushing one of their own out. They are pushing things really hard. Incredible that we couldnt get 1 of them called today. Tomiyasu was such a clear pen, I was surprised and its pure retaliation from PGMOL

I feel the exact opposite. I think the Nketiah pen against City was a pretty clear make-up call* on behalf of the refs. Shame that we wasted it.

* Though I do think that it was still technically correct. Defenders hammering attackers with impunity after a shot has been struck is a pet peeve of mine. It is still a fact that that is never called as a pen.

Don't quite agree with this, I'm not sure it was clear he'd been hacked in the back of the foot without ball contact when it happened. However, VAR should have picked it up.

I know the law itself is clear, but I'm not in favour of handball penalties being given for situations where the ball's travel or the intent prior is a bit ambiguous, or there's not a clear scoring opportunity that would develop. I hate it when those calls go against us. Just how I feel about it.

Overall, I'm way more worried by the way refs are waving on other sides' over the top physicality, or time-wasting tactics against us. What we saw from Bournemouth yesterday is becoming the default. Yellow cards need to be out in the first half hour, these are football matches, governed by the laws of the game not the Geneva Convention.

Didn't they make it clear that unnnatural position of your hands no matter the intent will be a pen? I am certain either one of those handball VAR lookouts would have been given against us.

Neto also punched White in the head before one of their gazillion handballs in the second half. Had completely missed that. This game was absolutely unreal.

Even Bournemouth's first goal should've been disallowed, although on a technicality rather than something that actually mattered.

Should the first Bournemouth goal have been ruled out as well? Apparently one of the Bournemouth players were already in our half at kick off?

People keep blaming VAR but I'm grateful because VAR has shown up the excuse of human error. The referees in England are incompetent, corrupt and weak. No other league has such a poor standard of referees and even the famously corrupt FIFA are capable of managing a higher standard of refereeing.

They did, and they are hopelessly inconsistent, but I personally don't think random handballs should be penalties, just how I feel about it. But yeah according to what they say it should've been given, as should the kick on Tomiyasu.

When I think about how we nearly dropped points in this match it's mostly about the two soft goals we conceded.

mohan Yeah, if it were just intended handballs that were given, there would pretty much never be a single penalty given for handball. It's not often that you see Suarez vs. Ghana-style handballs, most of them are just defenders being unaware of where they're keeping their arms.

These days almost all defending one on one in the box happens with defenders putting their hands behind their backs while jockeying the opposing player. And then you have yesterday where the commentator even says something along the lines of the only way we could get a pen against them was if they actually catch the ball. It was just shit refereeing. We didn't give the last one so we can't give this one sort of nonsense

flobaba that's exactly it. I guarantee not a single one would have been overturned either if they were given too.

I have to say though I don't think any of them stonewall pens so can understand VAR not intervening. The referee copping out of making a decision in real time though is less understandable. After each appeal you could see him say 'relax if VAR see a handball they'll give it', but that's not the case. You end up in this ludicrous situation where none of the officials make a decision because they're able to defer responsibility to the other official.
