He's nearly immune as long as the Republican party stands by him.

Fuck them for it too, they continue to highlight their lack of morals as they didn't want him as the GOP head but won't change that (now that he's in power) because they hold a Senate majority and the Executive branch.

Trump's "I hope you drop the investigation" isn't likely to be strong enough (from a wording / grammar perspective) to push through an obstruction of justice charge, so Comey will need to have more to lead to a charge. After that it will become too much for even the Republicans to stand, but there needs to be some form of criminal activity otherwise he'll be in office the full four years.

His days are numbered. The Republican Party doesn't really like him and will only stand with him as long as is in their interest - remember he is not even a Republican, he hijacked the party. The more unpopular he gets, the more dirt is unearthed by the Russia probe the less loyalty they will have to him.

I'd be surprised if he makes it till the New Year.

Trump is an embarrassment to democracy everywhere, but the problem with focusing too much on him is that almost every single issue would remain under Pence and a republican agenda. People can't afford to ever ignore that fact. The GOP is still an extremist party, half an inch away from Ku Klux Klan on a good day, with the most extreme vice president to ever be elected to office. It's not the sitting presient who is the biggest problem. It's that american politics were allowed to regress to this sorry state. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell will still be there, Pence will still be there. If impeachment ever becomes reality we'll be spared scandalous tweets and the face of a de facto rapist on the evening news every week, and the world will still be going down the toilet.

I just hope the media and the american voters don't lose sight of what these people really are once Trump is gone.

Spot on. And I can see far too many liberals accepting Pence because he offers more decorum than Trump. He might actually be a worse prospect for America because impeachment would dampen the opposition thats pretty heated at the moment and allow more democrats to get away with not opposing whatever bills, etc the GOP try to pass. Impeaching Trump would be treated as a victory but the midterms matter way, way more.

100% In some ways I'm more 'comfortable' with Trump because he's so incompetent and he's now constantly in the spotlight.

I would question anyone who is more "comfortable" with Trump, even in relative terms.
It's the kind of thinking that contributed to him getting elected.
Trump is demonstrably and unashamedly misogynist and racist. He's a sociopathic liar and serial sexual molester- the fact that he doesn't make any real effort to hide his vileness does not make him less dangerous than Ryan or Pence.

For those two, I would hope that by now their proximity to any potential scandal will do for them when, or if, Trump gets hung out by the GOP.

Trump needs to go, that's for sure. Republicans are already starting to back away from him; Chaffetz is leaving Washington rather than being tasked with overseeing Trump ffs! Trump has made a lot of enemies among Republicans, and now they are emboldened. When Paul Ryan sticks the shiv in, and he already has the shiv out now, then Trump is done. I just fucking hope they won't let him 'just' resign, but that criminal charges are actually brought. They need to lock him up.

Klaus is spot on though; people need to see Republicans for the extreme right wing party that they are. Trump is so monumentally stupid so everything is out in the open with him. With someone like Pence in charge it will be just about as horrible, but in a very much more low key fashion.
