Interesting stuff.
The way he gaslights the gathered journalists incrementally with the view that they're mistreating him is textbook abuser—makes you shudder to think what it must be like being in a family with him. It's reminiscent of the most manipulative football managers whining to the press corps.
Also the somewhat flippant, exasperated, reluctant condemnations of the Nazis in his base.
One of Trump's surprise strengths as an interview subject is his incoherence and his imperviousness to assumptions about consistency and correctness. Tony Abbott was a bit like that, always vague on the detail. Abbott once famously responded to being picked up on a major error of fact in a public statement by saying:
"I know politicians are going to be judged on everything they say, but sometimes in the heat of discussion you go a little bit further than you would if it was an absolutely calm, considered, prepared, scripted remark.
"Which is one of the reasons why the statements that need to be taken absolutely as gospel truth are those carefully prepared, scripted remarks."
Trump's claims about robotisation and protectionism are stark. I think he'll find himself in big trouble fast if he tries to put new chains on capital. I'm expecting chaos during his term.
