Payet finally leaves for OM, 25m in the end. Makes this tweet exactly a year ago bit embarrassing
West Ham are fucked.
25m is pretty cheap.
Just proves, once again, that player power is where it is at. A contract is worth very little these days.

No need to despair, they got Robert Snodgrass from Hull for 12m as his replacement.

is it though? realistically speaking, he's 29 going on 30. He's never scored more than 12 or 13 goals in a season. Yes, he has one really good season for WHU, but has been much less effective this season. He was purchased from Marseilles for the neighborhood of 11m and is selling him back to them at more than double the price a year and a half later...
Im sure they would have preferred him to stay, but as each transfer window passes, his price probably would have gone down. Sounds like WHU are cashing in while they can, especially considering he doesnt want to stay...
Even at 29, I would be happy to get a player of his pedigree at 25m. That's how inflated the market is, especially in January. It's a good fee for Marseille considering West Ham only wanted to let him go at 40m initially.
Anyway, think Payet left West Ham for personal reasons. Accepted a wage cut to play for a team likely to not have any european football next season, gave all of his January wages back to West Ham.
I'm interested to see how Gabbiadini will fare for Southampton, interesting signing.

TBF he's a decent player but he wont run the side the way Payet did.
I don't think he's a bad player either, he'd be a good buy if he was around 10m cheaper. EPL transfer fees are taking the piss these days, to think four years ago that Snodgrass fee would've been close to our record signing.

Didn't hear about him returning his wages but it's pretty clear that he's returning for personal reasons, his wife and children went back a good while ago apparently although you never know with these statements around, some French satire journal spread the news that he threatened to tear his own ACL if he didn't get his move back a while ago
Also there were rumours that three CSL clubs offering him silly wages were all rejected by the player himself.
Rumours that the Chinese are offering Rooney a massive deal and that he's seriously considering it. Why wont anyone come and give us stupid money for one of our non-Sanchez players?

Or the manager.
We've seen players like Payet before - big fishes in a medium size pond. Will do well for a short while, but ultimately there's a reason why top clubs never took a punt on him or even now, wont take a punt.
Speaking of nothing, is this the most underwhelming deadline day in recent memory? I didn't even realise that the window closes tonight. Has there been any semi-high profile transfers at all anywhere in Europe?
Didn't realise Bojan was gone from Stoke.
Rannochia to Hull on loan.
