I don't see what Miquel and Bartley have done in their careers so far to justify selling Djourou. Those two can compete for a place but as it stands Djourou is quite rightly the better alternative.

Djourou makes mistakes but he's on par with fourth choice defenders at other top clubs, and he's shown that he could be more than good enough when he gets an extended run in the team because this time last season people hailed him as a nailed on starter. We need to be realistic, a lot of young players come through and play very well when they don't have to play week in, week out but once the initial rush of being in the first team evaporates, they need to develop the right mentality and push on from there. I still lol at the time when Denilson broke through and people said he was better than Flamini or the time when Bendtner broke through and he was suppose to be better than Adebayor. Talent has got so little to do with what is expected of a professional footballer, otherwise John O'Shea would be a plumber right now and Carlos Vela would be the best striker in Europe.

Chamberlain has been brilliant mostly, but he barely played until the end of January. He may as well not have been in the squad until that point.

I'm not putting down the young players, I personally think the youngsters we have coming through now are far more talented than the likes of Denilson and Bendtner were at the same age, but in most cases the talented youngster is an inferior squad option to the guy with 100+ games under his belt at the club.

We've gone to Old Trafford with all of Almunia, Eboue, Djourou, Denilson and Diaby in the team and played them off the park.

Yes, but our wage structure is a huge huge problem. We shouldn't be having to accomodate these fringe players who is on huge wages but seldom plays, always get injured, yet when they play fucked us up. What I want is talented youngsters who are hungry, equally capable, on far less wages to replace them. E.g. Lansbury for Diaby, Bartley + Miquel for Djourou. These are very capable youngsters who can do an equal job imo. That will also allow us to free wages to for far better quality players

That's an example of what I'm saying though, Clarence. Lansbury being an adequate replacement for a fit Diaby is us not living in the real world. Diaby has played at a World Cup, Lansbury can't get into West Ham's team every week. Another example; I wanted Eboue gone badly, and we brought in someone I consider to be a talented young right back in Jenkinson, yet he's not even close to being the squad option that the 'rubbish' Eboue was.

We've got to try and let the right ones go in the summer, and be very careful to find the right balance between decent, experienced squad players and talented young players.

Can´t help to think though that we could have kept Djourou for significantly less than the reported £50k a week.

Apply the same thinking to a host of our squaddies and you´ll get where I am coming from.

Yes, I see what you are saying there. I said during the summer Jenkinson wasn't quite ready for Eboue too and it was the wrong move. Yet the same Jenkinson also improved so much he became one of our best players before he got injured (I think it was against West Brom at home). The same Diaby too who hasn't played much, kept getting injured. Those little minutes given to Lansbury wouldn't have made much of a deficit to us too.

Its all about balance, I agree but that should be the step we should be going now. More quality for first team, less for fringe.

Like I always have said Ricky, you improve from the top down, not vice versa.

I agree with the sentiment but i think Clrnc's point is instead of having Diaby and Denilson, we would be better off with Lansbury and a proper quality midfielder. Thats my hope for the summer anyway - i think there is about 4 fringe players who could be replaced by young players (non factors like Squillaci and Almunia) and then another 3 or 4 who could be replaced with quality footballers and we'd be a lot better for it while probably saving money on wages.

I remember watching Jenkinson in pre-season and thinking what the hell was Wenger doing. However now i'm much much happier with Jenkinson in the squad instead of Eboue. I just get that vibe off Jenkinson that he will work day and night to improve and he's probably already better defensively than Eboue was. I like the fact that he's a local lad too.

And ye Diaby doesn't even count imo because he just can't stay fit. Waste of a squad place. Hopefully Wenger is looking at a M'Vila or someone like that to take his place.

Just had this crazy idea and can't believe I'm typing as I hate the player, but I'd like us to at-least put in a serious bid for Suarez(the Liverpool). By serious I mean say 20m + Walcott.

He(Suarez) is exactly the type of player we desperately need; A top quality player who can play up top with Robin, play as a wing forward(left and right), play as CF in place of Robin and most importantly NEVER gets injured. He's super reliable and already knows the league very well.

People would look at his goal scoring now and say 'not the player we need', but he'll start scoring goals, very very soon.

Podolski is a good player and all but won't ever make it to the elite level, Suarez most certainly will. And we desperately need another elite player, no more decent to good players please.

fair enough.

As I said I hate him(more than any player in the PL currently) but I just think we could do with a player of his qualities. I can live with despicable human beings If they can vastly improve us, others can't, which is very understandable.

Can't stand the little bastard, irrespective of his football ability. He's a horrid little man and I wouldn't want him having anything to do with Arsenal.

I quite like having players that I want to support - so I'm not too keen on the diving, racist vampire. If he keeps courting controversy he's never going to make it to the elite level either.

And Podolski is only a year older and can improve as well.

Well I guess his type wouldn't be accepted by our fans....Understandable.

I just hope we show ambition in the summer and try to bring in an elite player who can take us to the next level instead of settling for a semi cheap player who can only do a job.
