Completely forgot Shearer started at Southampton.

Mata Cahill Lucho and a versatile full back and i would be genuinely excited about this season.

Can't help but think that if we are going to go £25m for Mata, we may as well make a concerted effort for Hazard. Mata has the cv and a few more years experience but Hazard is so good.

It's what I'd do Capi. Mata's a very, very good player, who I'd welcome here with open arms, but Hazard is something else.

If Nasri goes we should really be looking at bringing both but I don't see that happening given the signings that we have already made.

I think the logical step for our club now is start shopping for really top level talented youngsters like Hazard, Martinez, Götze. Enough with the punts around 5 million or less. The top level youngsters will almost always recoup your outlay if you sell them in a few years anyway.

On the subject of recouping money, just seen a stat on Twitter that says since 2001 we've raised €300M in player sales. Bloody astonishing when you think about it. €30M a year! €144M to Barcelona alone. Who else could have done that and won what we've won? Amazing.

I was looking at that thinking "we won nothing 😐 " but then saw the 2001.

I agree with Ivansen. If we're going to go for young talent, we should go for the best of the best and be willing to throw an extra 5-10 million at them. Why bother building your team on young talent if we always go for the riskier options? I know it's not easy to judge/predict but certain players just have 'it'.

Wouldn't mind a combination of Cahill, Hazard, Parker and Anelka or something like that. Don't actually rate Parker but the squad is awfully young and he is a good premiership pro.

Dunno but he is in the last year of his contract.

It's not like we're going to sign a true top class striker anyway.

I read Anelka was unsettled earlier and I wouldn't mind us putting in a cheeky bid for him at all. Could be useful.

Oh and I saw earlier that Goetze has created more chances from open play than any other player in the Bundesliga over the past season. 67 in fact. I'm no expert on the guy but combine that stat with his highlights reel and surely he would be an absolutely ideal signing.

They're not going to let him go though. That, or it would take silly money to get him.

Getting Mata seems more likely, as Valencia need the money.

That's impressive, Burnsy. Had just watched the guy without paying attention to the stats.
We missed out on Oezil. We should look for a cheeky bid for Goetze. There is NO credible playmaking ability in our midfield right now. We need someone who can organize our midfield or else we'll continue to look as limp as we did at St James.
Goetze, Gonzalez, Cahill will help stabilize things. Next year we can go after a star. For now, we just need the quality to ensure we stay afloat

Well, we should be willing to consider 'silly' money for a player like that, 25-30m at least. Surely they'd think about it? This guy's 19, he'd be a perfect antidote to Cesc's departure.

Yeah, we definitely should do our utmost to sign top class talent like him, not just dismiss him because of his price tag.

Having said that, I can't see us doing that. Not with Wenger at helm.

Just been talking to a mate and I come up with the same names. Although didn't think of Anelka personally, but that's a good shout.

I'm not a big Parker fan, but as an option behind Ramsey and Wilshere he would be useful. We could get him on loan for the season too.
