The Zionist project has been to make the following equation true: Judaism = Zionism
It also seeks to broadly define Judaism not only as a faith and ethnicity but as a race that transcends all other potential identity traits by virtue of a shared common ancestry to a group of semi-mythical ancients whose historicity is questionable at best. The directness with which you can claim that ancestry (under the rubric those in power maintain) is, more and more, becoming an indicator for how "Jewish" you really are. Indeed, if only Jews have a right to self-determination in '48, then it stands to reason that only those who can be defined/identified as truly Jewish have that right. Palestinian Jews, for instance, will surely be considered too close to being "Arabs" to qualify. Ethiopian Jews already suffer tremendously as second-class citizens and an exploited immigrant labor force. One can easily foresee a near-future where Mizrahi and Sephardic Judaism, and the rich cultural history of their traditions, is entirely subsumed by the Israeli Ashkenazim, squirreled away in revisionist history museums. In the meantime, class lines will continue to conveniently fall on ethnic divisions to benefit both the multinationals and an elite group of what are essentially white supremacists.
