Doesn't matter what the intent is by the letter of the rulebook. You're not allowed to tackle from behind because people have no chance to react to it, no matter how innocuous or successful the tackle is, and that's it. Everyone knows it.
I'm not saying Xhaka came across as particularly reckless in this particlar instance for what it's worth, but he's a reckless player, and I reckon that's part of the reason. It's not the first time I've seen him tackle people from behind in his short Arsenal career. It comes with the territory with players like him. Vieira was the same.
