Now Wenger is leaving I’d like to see how the new guy would develop him. If whoever it is can help Big Lex improve his decision making and execution in the final third we may be able to salvage something, get his career back on track.

I agree. Easy to forget that the kid is only 21.

On one hand I want us to be a lot more ruthless than we've been over the last few years, but at his best I love this guy.

Problem with him recently is that he's almost become unplayable given how much he gives the ball away. It's been like watching Sanchez without any of the upside.

I think Iwobi is fine. He's just going through the normal growth pains of any player between 19 and 23. You look at our season and realise there are a ton of players who have had a similar year to him, and most of them don't have youth as an excuse. It's a bit much to ask that Iwobi should look brilliant when no one else does. This will have been a useful experience for him when he kicks on next season.

I like reading when people say we should sell Iwobi. He’s about as good as many of the guys we see wishlisted. He’s frustrating.. but a large part of that is because we see him everyday. He’s had a few decent games and will come good. I still have high hopes that the right manager will unlock Iwobi and Bellerin and really push AMN to the next level.

I'm on the other end of this ship.

I would have no issue selling him, or giving all of his minutes next year to whichever young'n is closest to breaking through. He's been afforded far too many minutes - through no fault of his own -- but he's done fuck all with them. I'm surprised he has as much support as he does considering his return this year has been embarrassing.

I just don't see it. What kind of player is he developing into?

His shooting is woeful, he rarely plays an impressive pass, he can beat his man but he rarely goes anywhere with it.

Where's Mhkitaryn when you need him?

This title needs a little updating -- should be 'The stagnation of Big Lex'.

He's great for transitions and speeding up the game, at his best he's also great in tight spaces and quick interchanges. Reminds me of Rosicky. Also, despite having a difficult season his return of 5 assists and 2 goals in 18 starts, while not great, is not 'embarrassing' either. Only 3 less than Mesut.

I was never hugely enamored with him but i don't want him sold. He could offer something under coach that can develop his tactical understanding and give him a bit more of a structure to work with

He pisses me off, but again, only 21. Like the rest of the squad, benefit of the doubt when the new manager comes in.

Personally like him. Last performance or two have been criminal, but that's what young players do.

Yup, the weight of that hair on his shoulders is really slowing him down.

He seems to lack effort and commitment on the pitch.

Also for a player who plays in front 3 his return is pathetic.

Not really concerned one way or another.
Worst case scenario he meets HG requirements and doesn't cost much in wages,
so he can be used as a squad player if he doesn't cut it as a starter.

Good news as, even though he has lost his shooting boots, we don't have any other player who possesses his combination of strength and close control.

Unlike the guy in your avatar, he never hides on the pitch (behind a defender) so his lack of goals don't make him useless.

Of course he could do better but at the very least his physique and close control make him the best ball carrier in our team.
Add his "home-grown" value and it should be understandable why Emery, who has seen him up close, has extended his contract.
