Unfortunate for lucas that alexis has started to offer almost everything we need in a cf. He frops short, goes in behind, and most importantly is no longer dwelling on on the ball. And he's doing all the above with the right sense of timing

This is easily the best football we've played in many many years

This is insanely good from us. Having two midfielders who can pass is so tasty. Can't remember the last time I saw us launch attacks so quickly.

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa That was some half! I too thought Basel were organised enough. We are just lit at the moment! Lucas for Alexis and Elneny for Santi soon plz!

It's also down to the relative pace from the front line (and also Bellerin). Our pressing struggled in the past since there were those who couldn't quite make up the ground and that gave opposition an out ball.

I thought the midfield looked a little open at the start but our defence is so solid now we can cope with it. That allows the rest of the team to play. There is also a lot of responsibility being taken out there. At one point Bellerin made a dangerous dribble inside but got dispossessed and Theo and Xhaka both covered for him to stop the counter. Thats what wins matches.

Not sure we're pressing more intelligently. The players are putting more effort in and kostafi allows us to compress the pitch a bit more than usual. That coupled with a very fast lineup has improved our press imo.

We have good one on one defenders. When the opponent has a straight run at our back four, I'm no longer bricking it like the last few years because there's a good chance they recover and clean up any misplaced passes. This feeds into our midfielders being more comfortable playing out from the back, which is one of the major areas we've struggled. Once you feed the ball forward quickly with the quality we have up front, you create massive problems for the opponent

From what little I saw (at work) it seemed Basel was playing alright but we were just too much for them.

Ozil may need to start drifting wider to find more impactful play as Sanchez is, and has the stamina, to play as a CF who leads the line and drops deep (into "Ozil territory").

Though I will say, without Theo on this type of form I wonder what we would be saying about Sanchez at CF.

Alexis is constantly an inch on the wrong side of the line that separates a 7/10 performance from a 10/10 performance.

Look how we easily played through their pressing there..we have much better footballers involved in our build up play these days
