Doc There was a widely held view this team/squad was much closer to the one which narrowly missed out to a strong City in 23/24 than that which more distantly finished to a poorer Liverpool last year. We were told the main difference was injuries and referring decisions affecting our eventual outcome.
People weren't calling for squad additions as such, there was definitely calls for improving the squad by relegating starting players, but at the time I thought it was a dangerous assumption that this team could get back to the highs of 23/24. We were nowhere near that level last year, and remain nowhere near it. Despite that, the signings have raised the floor, and that is what has allowed us to lead the league and do well in the Champions League.
