2024-2025 is the worst season in 30 years of supporting Arsenal. Quicker you understand this the better. Horrific, horrific season. Absolutely shambolic

If we'd signed Ollie Watkins, I feel fairly confident the net result on this season would be the same as if we hadn't.

Can’t be seriously comparing signing the 3rd best striker in the league v signing no-one.

We need to call this season null and void and attempt to somehow get over the line for top 4. Forget Liverpool Everton tomorrow.

Then in the summer actually have a proper window.

Not really, I just think longer term.

And I don't think you can measure individual ambition based on how het up you get by the season not going to plan.

For what it's worth, I got similar criticism when I was content with finishing 5th place three seasons ago because qualifying for the CL was the logical next step in our progression, which we've subsequently achieved.

Not saying we'll definitely win the league next season but I see no reason why we can't.

Longer term? We haven’t won a trophy for 5 years ffs. You think Saliba will stay if we go trophyless next year too? Every year you go trophyless it adds pressure to the following season. That’s why you can’t simply write off seasons.

We saw under Wenger how hard it was to win that FA Cup after our 9 year drought.

Sicario2 up to this season, we've shown clear signs of progression. So I'm not going to write us off of the basis of this season. It's short-term thinking. If we were to have a similar season next year, then we can talk. I'm not going to base my decision-making on whether Saliba may or may not go to Real Madrid in two years time.

Qwiss I don't think we're miles out. But I also think there's a significant difference between doing well in the CL and winning it. A gap I don't think Watkins overcomes as things stand.

So now that Havertz is apparently out (if only there was some way to foresee having one centre forward was problematic), do you feel that Watkins would have made no noticeable difference to now having to start Sterling in important games?

invisibleman18 firstly, we don't know the extent of Havertz's injury 'scare' so I'm can't properly react to that.

Do I think having Watkins makes much difference on how the season ends up (ie. winning or not winning silverware)? Still, no.

We won a Champions League away game with a Sterling-Trossard-Nwaneri front three just two weeks ago, for those keeping track of the actual game on the field, by the way.
