It takes 2 or 3 weeks of first team training if you've been out of 6 months plus, not if you've been out for 3 weeks. He'll probably be available for the Stoke game.

Also it looks like Santi's thang happened and went well - 2 months is minimum for any such (in general) says Arsene, and I wonder if he hints that time frame is relevant in this case.
If it is - If Santi's already training mid February, this could be very important for us. It could mean he actually will have a significant role to play this year.

A bit worrying how a CB can pick up a bad hamstring injury like this with no prior warning, especially considering he was rested midweek.

Sometimes they just ping, for no apparent reason. Like you say we rested him and it went. Maybe his rest needs to be more active. Maybe his brain just got the movement wrong like when you step off a curb funny and jar your ankle. Who knows?

I'd bet we have him on heavy training trying to increase his sprint speed. hes a bit to slow. And while he's doing that his hamstrings will be tired.

I suspect training might have something to do with it. Wenger said after the injury that he 'checked him three times' and there was no problem suggesting that Mustafi might have been carrying a knock or indicated that he felt something hence the rest. You get small early warnings pre hamstring tears because it's like a belt and players these days are thought to be upfront once they feel something so that they don't worsen it.

You certainly don't always get 'small warnings' ahead of hamstring tears, and I say that from extensive personal experience on the subject. 🙂

Ramsey still out with a vague injury. I wouldn't start him in either of our next couple of games but he'd be good to have on the bench.

You do get tension build up at the back of your thigh and I speak from having played at a decent level. Early warning systems are part and of parcel of the body anatomy. Think of it as the alternator belt going on a car.

Not going to continue this discussion beyond this post, but I know from personal experience that what you are saying just isn't so. Sometimes there are all the warning signs, but sometimes there are not.

Rex is a physio iirc, think he'd know.

Anecdotal, but I've torn my calf muscle in the past. it just went suddenly in a match with no warning whatsoever. One second it was grand, then the next it just tore in a sprint.

To be fair I don't think anyone here has played at the level of professional supervision that the Arsenal first XI do. I would expect there is a level of gambling with players when players go down with muscle issues, just depends what the odds are.

Hopefully not long but could be a blessing in the short term given Wenger seems incapable of recognising Coq and Xhaka make an awful pairing.
