Carlson is a seriously dangerous figure. I only get his clips secondhand, but he's been doing everything from implying his viewers will (read: should) shoot protesters, to denying racism exists, to suggesting abortion shouldn't be a woman's right in the past few days.

He feels to me like a second-order caricature, like he got his chops from satires of people like him.

Right wingers leaving Fox News because they're pissed it called Arizona so soon. Seeing a lot of comments about that "influencing the election" despite the call coming in at 11:20 (after polling was done).

What scares me is they're heading further right into the cess pool that is OAN (One America News). It's disturbing how they'll continually reject news sources as soon as they criticize/don't fall in line. Twitter/Facebook are now apparently lib media too, which is absurd when they're first and foremost a platform, and one that you have to pull some really absurd shit on before being checked by them.

And what are platforms if not just user created media? When the platforms then start deciding what is and is not news that can be shared its basically adding editorial bias. Using facebook or twitter for you news is insane in the first place.

So social media fragmentation is good. For a number of reasons.
1) Consumer choice and competition is good. For all the economic reasons you are aware of, monopoly is not ideal. So introduce competition.
2) People have tried to treat Facebook and Twitter like the 'public square' when, in fact they are not. They are private corporations that should have the rights of private companies. That would include moderating key public figures. They should have the ability to just shut down Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr when they threaten violence without people suggesting that their first amendment rights are being violated - and without a big section 230 debate.

Let there be competition. It's good that there can be social media spaces where your kids can go, and different places where right wing lunatics can go.

No one is going anywhere, people go where the action is and that's the mainstream social media sites. You've had plenty of right wing nut jobs try and take their congregation elsewhere with them when they get banned but they never get their following back. This is just the usual toys out of the pram nonsense.

Also having various echo chambers when no one calls you out for your stupid shit wouldn't be a good thing, these guys will become even more delusional.

The media has to be harder on them. Part of what made these people successful in the first place was the very soft approach the American mainstream media took on them. They would lie, mainstream media would carry those stories and not check them, and then these bad actors would repeat this in places like Breitbart. What they were doing was legitimising themselves, their lies and their platforms.

I'm glad Twitter is blue ticking Trump now. Go on his page. It is just filled with blue ticks. But that isn't enough. People swarm vote counting halls because of his tweets and try to kidnap politicians. Imagine if someone had gone in and damaged ballots in a less secure location. Or if someone had hurt Whittmer. Crush this shit. And if they congregate on GoonChan let them and send an FBI guy to monitor them.
