Dembele highlights for Dortmund
Would really appreciate if you could correct the typo in the thread title.
Rectified.

Every video I see him in, I only ever see a kid with extremely inconsistent first touch, inefficiency in everything he does, dodgy decision making, poor passing, continually lacking technically.... he carries the ball at speed well and has great balance and a bit of trickery, but the rest is so rough and raw.
Born dribbler though. That means he's already halfway to world class these days. The rest depends on how much he wants it. In two years time all those inconsistencies should be gone if he's serious about it.
Bet they won't be. His dribbling is exceptional, I'll give you that, but the rest is too bad/raw to all come together into a top player. But we'll see.
Yeah, I've watched him for like five minutes in total so I'm not going to argue. I have no idea what he looks like throughout a game or what he's like mentally. It literally takes five seconds though to see that he's not just annoyingly good at dribbling, he creates an ocean of space for himself when he does it. Aside from finishing I think that is the rarest quality to find in any attacking player today.
His vision and awareness is very decent as well just observing from that little video. He knows where his teammates are and don't even need to really look up. That's a mark of a good player.
Ricky, I can see where you are coming from but I'm also surprised how much you don't rate him considering you used to give someone like Ox a lot of hope and time that he will come good.
I've watched him for 5 minutes too!
I agree he's a special dribbler but it takes way more than that to be a top player. The rest looks pants to me.
A lot of Dortmund fans that I know are not happy with the impending return of Gotze. Neither are they keen about singing an ex-Schalke player Schurrle.
If/when these two transfers go through, it would be interesting to see how Tuchel fits all these attackers in his best XI.
But Schürrle was never at Schalke?
Not sure what to think about the Götze transfer. On one hand I wanted him to ruin his career on Bayern's bench but then again he and Dortmund deserve each other.

I agree, I've watched him a couple of times and he has the mark of a special player. Even if I hadn't, 26 Ligue 1 matches, 12 goals and 5 assists from the wing in his first ever season - there's no doubt he's massively talented. Don't think his technique is that inconsistent but even if you think so there's no reason to think he won't improve in that respect, and his other traits like his incredible dribbling ability and his knack to find the right amount of feints and sidesteps more often than not alone make him a huge prospect imo

I know nothing about him, so my opinion doesn't carry much weight, but that highlight reel you quoted does show a player with a great first touch/control (better than most) and decent passing (high crosses, through-balls) apart from that one ball he sent a bit too far wide. He always had his head up when dribbling and crossed/passed if another player made a run which is a sign of good decision-making. That his passes found their man shows he cannot be lacking technically. This was reflected in the team trusting a new player to take their corners and that short corner was a decent decision, if it came off.

Dortmund is actually a pretty admirable club IMO. Always loses players but never stop trying to sign good players to replace and move forward.
They have signed Mor, Schurrle, Gotze, Dembele, Merino, Bartra, Rode, Guerreiro. Impressive.
Scored a good goal against United today.
