Original Ronaldo. Even after he tore his knee ligaments multiple times and after turning back he was world class. Granted he wasn't peak Ronaldo anymore throwing out performances from he El-Phenomeno days, but he refined his game and turned into a goal machine, the complete box player and more. I can still remember that performance he has against United. Unbelievable to come back the way he did after everything that happened to him in Italy.

I know he ruptured both patella tendons. And ligaments in one knee. I didn't realise he did both.

I can't remember if del Piero did both knees or just one, but he's probably the only one I can think of who came back better after a complete rupture. I'm struggling to think of many players who came back and managed to play consistently at top level after one ACL, let alone two.

I know only of the big one at Udine 1998. He took utter ages to get back to form after that and although he had something of a second wind late in his career that torn ACL effectively ended his career as the player who'd become bigger than Baggio. I remember that people were comparing him to pre-injury Ronaldo back in 98 and a couple years later many Juventus fans wanted to see him gone, says it all about his performances before and after his injury.

Don't get me wrong, I was still a fan of his as a (changed) player and a personality but even if he had a number of great seasons later on, he was like Ronaldo in that the "what could've been" feeling was always palpable when he played

I really like Elneny too. I suspect his ceiling might be higher than Xhaka's.

He's a clever player. I fear that he'll never really be appreciated here though

Yeah, I think we made life difficult for him by signing Xhaka whose fee and profile commands a bigger commitment from us in terms of first team opportunities. I like Elneny better so far though. His distribution is awesome and he plays with a lot of gusto. I like how he keeps looking for forward passes even when he's under pressure.

If you think European football is bad

Today a pretty big Brazilian derby Atlético vs Curitiba was supposed to be broadcast on YouTube for the first time, with both clubs owning the image rights and responsible for the streaming. Both teams were ready for the game on the pitch when the refs said they wouldn't start the match until both teams turned their streams off because they were told so by the Brazilian FA

Reason for it being that negotiations between the country's biggest broadcaster Globo and the clubs broke down because Globo refused to pay them more than a certain fee. Now that the clubs took their image rights in their own hands Globo went ahead and made the ref refuse starting the match. After both clubs declared they wouldn't cease the streaming the refs actually called the whole game off 😆

Globo are fucking incredible. They played a huge role in ousting Brazil's president Rousseff from power and instating a far right cabinet in her place, now they're even calling matches off that they don't have anything to do with
