A major change was made the abortion law, there was no evidence session, no committee stage scrutiny. 2 hour debate so yes I do think there is a lack of consideration here. I wouldn't be surprised if they go back now and try to seek further amendments.
Tam What do you think is to be gained from criminalising women who seek to abort late in term?
Why don't we just let them kill the babies after they are born? If late term is ok then why not let them deliver the babies and then decide? How far we do keep pushing it, do we just abandon all moral and ethical standards in this country? If a woman decides to abort late term and there are genuine reasons behind it I think we should support them, not saying every circumstance should be treated in the same manner and if the law needs to be improved in that regard I have no problem with that.
We have very relaxed laws compared to the rest of Europe, I know of babies being born around the 24 week mark and they've survived. In countries like France, Italy, Spain and Germany it is between 12-14 weeks. I'd argue it was widely considered a settled debate in this country. I think changes like this long term could backfire. I fear an America like culture war could come out of this.
Here is the MP who bought forward this bill saying she has no problem with 37 week abortions. I do not consider myself pro life but I find comments like that quite sick.
