Giroud, Ozil, Griezmann and Sanchez would be fine together. I'm confident of that
We really missed out when he moved to Madrid. He's worth a solid £70m now.

Or stick him up front with Sanchez and don't have any wingers.

Griezmann can easily play off Giroud on the wings from either side even. He started as RW twice this tournament, as LW once and now twice at CF/CAM behind Giroud. We would actually have an elite midfield-forward line if we could add him.

Alexis-Giroud-Griezmann
----------Özil---------
------Xhaka-Cazorla----

That is so, so good. Could easily accept Giroud as a starter then (and add someone as backup).

Draxler would fit in the same way, but of course, he is much less proven than Griezmann.

There's a reason why he was dropped in the 2nd match after an abysmal performance on the wings in the first game where he got taken off. He was also horrible in the first half against Ireland on the wings and suddenly became a different player when he was moved to a number 10 role in the 2nd half. That was also the start of his goalscoring exploits.

Agreed.
The decision by Deschamps to swap Payet & Griezmann on the pitch has probably been the biggest of the EUROS & looks like it may win the title.
It's also the sort of decision that AW is reluctant/unable to make because it not only changes his philosophy about having a passing playmaker behind the CF, but it also shows up his inability to effectively problem solve an issue of his own making these past 4 seasons.

As for Draxler - whilst I can see his quality and versatility I doubt AW will be willing to spend the likely asking price which will have risen over the EUROS.

Talking about griezmann brings me to my biggest criticism of ozil. For all his genuis he is lightweight when it comes to scoring. Add an unreliable walcott and slow midfield (barring Ramsey) and we have a lack of both goals and goal scoring opportunities.

How about

Griezmann Giroud Ramsey
----------Ozil--------------
-----Xhaka-Elneny--------

Nope - disagree with both formations as they wouldn't resolve the current issues with Giroud isolated as CF.

The key with France is that they went from this where both Griezmann & Giroud struggled
Giroud
Griezmann - Payet - Sissoko
Pogba - Matuidi/Kante

to this where not only have both players 'clicked' in attack, but also the team has been far more dangerous

Giroud
Payet - Griezmann - Sissoko

Griezmann is playing as a SS off Giroud and preventing the opposition from pushing up
Payet drifts inside as a wide playmaker and still has space and time on the ball
Evra still overlaps outside Payet
Sissoko provides a wide direct ball carrying option on the other flank to prevent the opposition defence compressing onto the 2 forwards
the extra space in the middle with the vacant CAM position allows Pogba to push forward into the space alongside Payet.

Why are we discussing Griezmann so deeply? He's as unattainable as Messi and Ronaldo for us.

Draxler on the other hand is very gettable.

Not if the reports I saw about his (Draxler's) fee being as much as Lacazette if not more.
Agreed re Griezmann.

Yeah but there's a very good reason why one is gettable and one isn't.

I kinda meant the same. You just have to rearrange this as

Giroud

Ozil- Griezmann - Ramsey/Alexis

Elneny/ramsey - Xhaka

Just that putting ozil wide freaks people out.  😆
So IMO we need two attacking player. A left wide forward/goal scorer and number 9 (backup to giroud if you will).

Not wanting to get too into this discussion so as to derail the thread, so I've posted a couple of options in the Formation thread.
As for a backup for Giroud in this new role/attack = Sanogo/Bendtner could do the job as it's the SS who is the main goal threat not the CF.

Never denied that, but I just think it's a pointless discussion, especially in a Draxler thread. I keep opening the thread thinking there's been some transfer update 🙁

Lots noise about him again on twitter. I guess this will come down to price....

from anyone worth paying attention to?

Not really. It was randomly on ESPN channel rumor section the other day, been snowballing from there - english and german papers quoting each other back and forth thanks to ESPN and then Jan Aage Fjortoft mentioning it a couple of times that Wolfsburg may sell for the right price. Nothing concrete.

I think he's style and technical level is ideal for us though. AW could really turn him into something.

6 days later

I have the nagging feeling Griezman is a bottler.
