I don't know how much of gymnastics is incorporated into crossfit but from my limited knowledge of it, that's not what I'm talking about. Gymnastics has pretty straight forward progressions that don't involve the same risks as crossfit, which if I'm not mistaken, is about doing movements quickly, regardless of how you do them.
The first three minutes of this is quite a good indication of what I'm talking about. Pound for pound power will always be favored by the gymnast over the weight lifter. He also mentions soreness and recovery times. So in the context of a sport like football where speed and agility are so crucial, I can't believe gymnastics training isn't favored over weights.
