Exciting stuff.
Ornstein has joined the party lads.
Arsenal have triggered Jamie Vardy release clause & in talks with Leicester to sign the striker. Story broken by @StuartJamesGNM #AFC #LCFC
Wenger was at the England game yesterday with David Dein, probably talking with Vardy.
A few more figures going around on twitter say under £20m.
Would be shocked, not Wenger's type of player imo. But we'll see...
Interesting one, under £20m is the figure Dean is using. With the lack of Elite strikers available might be a worthwhile short term solution.
Didn't see this one coming, that is for sure.

Ornstein has confirmed it
Hames Vardy #9

How different is Vardy from Ljungberg?

Lindbergh was a 21 year old talent, not a 29 year old coming off a blatant outlier of a season after spending most of his career playing damn near semi-professional football. This move is possibly justifiable as cover for Welbeck under the hypothesis that transfer fees are just completely insane now, which is fair enough (though we better sell Gibbs for something like 15m then in that case). If this is supposed to be our big signing for our forward line then it couldn't be any more underwhelming.
5 goals in the league last season, 24 this season. What a change of fortune.
Big signing if true. Might not be the name everyone wanted but Vardy would immediately improve our frontline greatly. Maybe getting on a bit but exactly the type of way of player we need. Stoked about this transfer. Really hope it gets done.
Would be a top signing and would smash it with us. Love him.
well damn. didnt think wenger had it in him. the only time i can remember him going for an established striker pushing 30 is davor suker
I'd still start the season with an Alexis-Giroud-Wilshere front three as things stand even if we sign Vardy.
Ljugberg was a winger, Vardy is a striker. Vardy is 29, Ljungberg was 21. Ljungberg was a Swede without a particularly problematic personal backstory, Vardy is a chavvy Englishmen with some bollocks and admittedly a checkered past. Ljungberg was bought from a no mark foreign team, Vardy is being bought from a CL team and defending champion. I see very little similarity other than the fact that both were direct and quick
guess im the only one who thinks this is a mistake. blah

What do you expect Wenger to do instead? Get Aubameyang? Benzema?
He's not ideal for me but better than the main alternative being bandied about, who is coming off a 7 goal league campaign in a weaker league. As a late bloomer, I think he has at least two seasons left at his physical peak but he could decline rapidly after.
My major question is whether he could perform in a team/system like ours

While the question is clearly purposefully obtuse, I do think that Vardy and Ljungberg have very similar skillsets which just make this signing make less sense. Signing this guy does nothing to resolve our CF issue, even in the short term
