The DM / holding midfielder dropping down between the CBs is a very common tactic used by teams that push both fullbacks forward but then have to defend against the opposing transition / counter. It's nothing particularly special, almost common sense in fact to avoid getting caught on the break. We used Arteta the same way, as previously mentioned. The weakness is you're ceding the midfield, but that is mitigated by a more athletic midfield. We stopped using the tactic 2 seasons ago when Arteta kept getting crocked and Flamini kept dropping down even when the opponents were past the transition stage and our fullbacks had caught up.

I want him to do that, it's a class trait. Gives the fullbacks full freedom to move forwards and overload the middle of the field with men. Attack in numbers.

Indeed, There was still enough room to drop even deeper if he'd stood on top of the goalie
