Nice comp. I didn't watch the match, so quite rewarding viewing since he seems to have been involved in nearly every minute of play. Probably got a better look at him from that than I have from watching Switzerland's other matches. 🙂

Very decent touch, seems to have no desire to overlap or roam forward, top drawer tackling technique, his Swiss team mates are evidently completely reliant on him. That seemed to be a pretty slow pitch.

You can really see him being an asset locked in behind Özil and Ramsey.

That's the one thing I thought he was lacking.

So much so that I have doubts regarding him being the deepest midfielder here.

I haven't watched a lot of him, just his Euros appearances—but to me his technique looks excellent in that area. I saw him go in a bit over-zealous vs Albania, but he has all the control he needs when he wants.

It's that laid back, almost nonchalant way in which he manipulates the ball. Crazy good touch and technique at times. Just flicks it round people without even trying.

I notice he shifts his body weight well to wrong foot players who come in to close him down. That combined with good physical strength which allows him to protect the ball makes him hard to dispossess despite his lack of speed

alonso is an apt comparison. size, passing, and brains.

wenger needs to encourage him to look for the early, hard forward pass to ozil and alexis (and hopefully our wonderfully mobile new striker lol) as often as possible. he has the ability to take those risks with his passing but still be accurate

Noticed him passing through the lines from behind the centre circle quite a few times in his last two games. That kind of pass will do so much to open space up for us going forward that we don't get when passing it side to side then going through the fullback to the wingers. Think we have a real gem of a player on our hands here.
