Arsenal are set to complete the purchase of young Argentine Maxi Romero over the next week, according to reports coming out of the country on Thursday. Various claims have been thrown around regarding figures that Arsenal are set to pay for the youngster, but the original reports suggest that information isn't exactly known by the media yet.
Argentina's Dale Fortin explain that Arsenal emissaries are travelling to complete the deal on April 9th, and that will likely see Romero stay where he is with Velez. The Argentine club will continue to develop their youngster and as well as receiving a transfer fee for the player from Arsenal they'll also likely get a percentage of any future transfer fee should Arsenal sell the player in the future.
Romero was first linked with Arsenal by the Argentine press in January and we covered it at the time, explaining:
''Pay attention to the kid, he's a beast' is how Argentine newspaper Ole start their Thursday article about Maximiliano Romero. The 16 year old is creating news in Argentina with his progress on the football field and Ole think people should remember his name. Romero this week took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly for his current club Velez Sarsfield against All Boys. He scored twice and impressed so much that there are reports he could be involved next week, for the full team, against Boca Juniors in a crucial match.
Romero only turned 16 years of age on January 9th and his progress has seen him receive attention from several clubs, even from 'across the ocean' as Ole refers to Europe. The newspaper say it should be no surprise that he's making such progress but state that people were still astonished by his performance against All Boys.
Ole claim on Thursday that Arsenal have already made a $3m bid for the player, that works out to be around £2m.'
That bid, which was just for a hare of the player's rights, was turned down and if the latest reports are correct, Arsenal have returned with a deal more pleasing for Velez.
