Balotelli seems to be going down the same road Bendtner chose, unfortunately. As someone who loves football I find it extremely annoying to see someone with such a massive talent being satisfied with where he is at. I wonder when he stopped having the dream and hunger of trying to become the best in the world?
To some degree it is the same with the real Ronaldo; he peaked at about 20, became overweight, and just lived off the massive talent he had ever since. To think that he STILL is one of the very best strikers the game has seen! I still wonder though how good he REALLY could have been.

Dude, the guy had serious knee injuries around the time you claim he 'peaked', which included 15 months out of the game ffs. Slightly harsh assessment there.

Don't think Ronaldo ever settled. Having weight/injury issues is different than settling.

The real fans were still monkey chanting at that point to opposition players. I don't think that ever sat well with real ronaldo.

The other issue was the third party ownership. According to bobby robson, after his great season at barca bobby was leaving but he asked ronaldo why he was leaving and ronaldo said that the third party owners made all the decisions and he had to go along with them. It must have got to him at someone actually owned him which is crazy in this day and age.

Played 246 league games and scored 159 after 20 years old, so I would mind that as a peak overweight player.

Mentioning a punk like Balotelli in the same post must be a joke.Totally different class talent and effort wise.

No joke. IMO Ronaldo never hit the heights of where he was ahead of the WC final in -98. He was still a cracking player of course, which is exactly what I said.

I don't see what the controversy is about when comparing two players I feel stagnated fairly early during their careers, albeit at very different levels.

The difference is that Ronaldo didn't stagnate after 98. He was still truly world class for the next 7 years.

Seems a bit tubby. Despite knowing nothing about him I can safely say he'll go the way of Emre Can and Sahin in this league. And there are injury concerns. We need reliability in that position. Apart from the Southampton CMs, struggling to think of anyone who we can get for £25m that's a safer bet. World class quality will cost at least £10m more than that and we have other positions to sort out.

He's so good on the ball and is one of those guys who has a picture in his mind of what he's about to do.

Would easily be our best centre mid
