What puzzled me most about that deal was the idea that Gallas was somehow good.

I used to watch Chelsea and think we were lucky that we had missed that guy back when we signed every French player ever. Such a nothing footballer; not good enough for centreback so they punted him wide, but then we put him in the heart of our defence anyway, and predictably he was too short, too limited and too dumb to ever work for us. We would have been so much better off just taking a wad of cash for Cole and then signing a defender of our choice instead.

Klaus this is fake news. Gallas was brilliant for Chelsea and was a big reason why they won back to back titles. Him John Terry had a great partnership before he moved to full back. He also used to come up with big goals in particular a long distance one v Spurs in the last min. He also was vital for France in the 2006 World Cup and helped get them to the final.

Overall he was up and down for us and appreciate he will be remembered for crying on the pitch but he was a big game player.

Klaus Gallas was good at left back for Chelsea. He was always a mediocre centre back but he refused to play left back. That's why he wanted out of Chelsea. One of my most hated Arsenal players of all time. Wenger making him captain was the biggest mistake of his career. Absolute cancer. Massive bottler.

The player I'm surprised we never went for was Evra. Clichy was cheaper I suppose but Evra, despite being an absolute cunt, was the prime French LB but we didn't seem to go for him even though he played for Monaco and reached a semi in 2004. He didn't move to United until 2 years later.

Bernard Woolley Would be the perfect signing vith a view to replace Ödegaard. Thought there was no chance of signing him but Mourinho might have changed that. Maybe Cesc would recommend him going to us too.

If we're looking for a big statement of intent, this would be it.

Sicario2 He was a prick but he was definitely both quick and good in his era. And Wenger very obviously signed him for the same reason he signed other highly mobile defenders.

That said I think we've got five centre halves I'd rather have than Gallas in our squad right now.

Gallas was a good player, when he first joined us he was good as well. That incident at Birmingham changed everything.

At Chelsea he wanted to play CB, before Mourinho joined he had a great partnership with John Terry before Mourinho switched him to LB and IIRC he joined us on the condition we play him CB. One of the few defenders out there who used to give Thierry Henry a tough time.

Talk is PSG don't want to sell Barcola and if they do sell want more than what Rogers/Elliot have gone for. Interesting about the image rights causing issues with other players.
