same question we were asking last summer, except it was centre halves then. this guy gets full blown tunnel vision once he has a bee in his bonnet about a position/player. once again squandering resources on a position where the manager should be able to make do with what he has available, and use those resources on areas that need it more

Good but not great, and IMO it doesn't take us forward to the next level to challenge for 3rd place, but it does solidify our current levels and more importantly it should make us fit for purpose provided Xhaka leaves/is no longer a starting player.
That said I don't think we are able/capable of having a great transfer window because we don't have UCL.

Pepe got some 500 minutes last season and we're looking at replacing him with a 50m+ player (who's not even half as talented to boot), we're struggling to get ESR and Martinelli enough playing time as it is. Only CM were linked with is dodgy Tielemans who'd cost half of Raphinha

Most of those points are consistent with my fears. Barcelona could afford those funds for Raphinha if we just choose to match/edge the highest bidder for De Jong (don't get enticed for Depay).

Raphinha will absolutely go to barca if they can afford it

However they've thus far failed to register their 2 free signings (Christensen and Kessie)

Their main target now is lewy who'll cost 30-40m plus huge wages.

Even with FDJ sold i'm struggling to see how they can afford.

Lisandro is a very very good CB, love this ball playing ability but we really don't need him and he might be too short for PL.

The smartest signing from Ajax will be Edson Alvarez. Tenacious at CM, very good at fullbacks. So versatile and solid player.

Asensio unfortunately isn't the same player after his injuries

Yeah, but he also played in Serie A, not the Prem. There are very few short CB's that have really thrived on the biggest stages. Those 2 and perhaps Puyol (though he was 5'10"). Cant think of others off the top of my head
