Would be a massively underwhelming signing for me. We need another on Partey's kind of level and I don't think he is.

He is however better than the rest of our lot. However we also need to be realistic, without CL football we might be able to sign anyone better.

Bissouma is out there still. Seems a tad underrated. Partey and that boy will run midfields across England ragged. Only problem I see is losing our entire midfield in afcon years.

On our CM options in general, it's very clear we're likely going to have to compromise on who we bring in. And if we can do that for a reasonable price (and their age profile is good), then I can live with that.

Punts on not yet fully proven youngsters basically. Kinda an 'anyone but Xhaka' option but hopefully with more potential upside in the long-term.

It can't be that hard to find a central midfielder with bags of energy. Both Brighton and Leicester find them all the time. Time for our scouts to earn their wages this summer.

Yeah, our signings have been good, but pretty well known, we'll never get someone obvious like De Jong now that we missed out on CL, time to find some hidden gems. If we have a clear profile of player we're looking for, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone who fits the bill and doesn't cost 50 million.

What happened to that Brazilian lad that looked like a new Casemiro? It seemed like we were working something out for him in January.

In all seriousness, I agree with you just sceptical on his much we're leveraging advanced scouting given most of the players we've sourced over the last couple of seasons seem to have come from either the PL or Edu/Arteta's contacts.

I get what you're saying. In all seriousness the non-contact-based portion of our transfer business has been rather good lately though. We've signed guys like Tomiyasu and Ramsdale, and even though the latter dipped pretty badly during the second half of the season he had a good season. These weren't names on any wishlists last summer. If we can keep doing business like that we'll be well off.

Danilo? I liked the look of him, considering how short we are in midfield that's the kind of signing we should absolutely make.

That's fair - I forgot about Tomiyasu (Ramsdale feels a bit more obvious given her came from a PL club - even if none of us rated him).

Fingers crossed we can pull out some more Tomiyasus and no more Willians.

Tomiyasu really was a brilliant signing (fingers crossed he's not a permacrock), I had never heard of him, and he's our best defender by a country mile. Such a smart and mature player.

That's the one! I did a quick search and it seems like he's been taking English lessons this year to prepare for a move, might be to us.
