Completely different player to Xhaka tbf. Box to box athletic defensively minded player, not as good a passer into the final third. Used to be a great prospect two years ago but a shadow of himself since his big knee injury.

I don’t think we necessarily need an AM, just give ESR a go, and buy a cheap substitute as cover.

CM is where we need to be spending big.

I think the people rating him highly haven't seen him enough. he's a decent player, but I think it would end up being another expensive misstep

If we can get Odegaard in for half the price of Maddison (or therabouts), and as a bonus not let Leicester have that money to upgrade with, then you'd have to make that deal instead.

I really like both players btw. They offer different things.

Wheatley repackages / regurgitates other people's stuff. Sort of reliable since he does take care what he covers but he doesn't have any special insight.

That sounds about right, Madrid are never going to promise Odegaard a starting spot, as much promise as he shows he's not THAT good just yet. Given that information and what happened to him last season, it feels right that he'd want to leave. Given that he only has two years left, I can't imagine Madrid will put up too much of a fight.
