Think Vermaelen would be potentially brilliant at a Spanish club. He's an outstanding footballer from an individual point of view.

He'd do well on the ball fornbarca and would probably fit in well, but he's not the leader that Piqué needs though.

I reckon he'd be brilliant in a back 3, really hope he doesn't go to united.

Disagree. Think Vermaelen is a good leader. One of the first things I noticed about him is how he actively marshalled the defence. He's a got a decent defensive brain on him, just too out of practice/synch these days, and just not an appropriate partner for Kos.

It's rumoured that Barcelona are going to play with three at the back, they have practtised with it this pre season. Here's what I read:

Neymar - Suarez
Messi
Iniesta----Rakitic
Busquets - Macherano
Vermaelen - Pique - Mathieu
Bravo

Personally think it looks very narrow, but I guess it could work since they have two strikers that can move vide, and Messi and Iniesta can do the same. I do wonder if they will just be ripped apart on both the left and right side, though. Anyway, hope Vermaelen goes there. As you, I think he would improve United quite a bit.

Nonsense story. If they actually researched it Madrid worked hard to sign up Alonso on a new deal in January when his contract was up this year and it wasn't to get a decent fee for a player turning 33.

Their logic / info is that if real sell Alonso they can give kroos and Sami enough games to be happy.
