on one hand, i admire wenger's apparent transfer strategy. most of the guys who have moved already this summer either:
had release clauses, we're free agents, or were coming from clubs that had to sell for financial reasons.
vidal is the closest thing to a bonafide world class star to move. we got cech, who has the reputation as one of the best keepers in the world. but we haven't signed squad players. we haven't overpaid for questionable assets. if you want to be optimistic, the way you look at this is: we are aiming very high. the talents we want will only be available if their club is able to buy the players they want, who are likely also superstars.
example: benzema will only move if madrid can get reus. so instead of spending Β£25m or whatever on higuain, who is a level or two below benzema, we're waiting. if reus doesn't end up at madrid, then we run the risk of not being able to get the target we want.
or maybe gotze will only move if they bring in vidal. or maybe gotze won't go if they sell muller.
when you're only trying to buy world class players, it gets more complicated, it would seem. the big clubs generally dont have to sell before they buy, so its not like they have to rush. madrid doesn't have to sell benzema to be able to afford to buy reus. i think we have to be patient.
assuming no major injury crisis in the next 6 weeks, our squad is good enough to finish top 3 again. our goal should be to have a squad strong enough to win the league, but only 1 team gets to win the league and even if we upgrade we're no lock. wenger probably does not see the value in buying a squad player, especially when we still have guys like flamini and campbell on the books. go big or just wait.
