The issue with the plant was that there seemed to be very little likelihood that such a plan would have the effect that Walt intended. There was also no explanation of how he executed it or why his moral standard had drifted further, but I can leave that aside.
He ended up needing to get that morsel of info from Jesse to hatch the Casa Tranquila plot, but his theoretically diabolically clever manipulation would actually have been rather likely to distract and confuse Jesse and make Walt's own situation more difficult. Which left the twist as a whole feeling tacked on.
I just wish they'd found something actually diabolically clever for him to have done.
Anyway, all these minor complaints are in the context of it certainly having a been a great few episodes. The unravelling of the plot and the careful marshalling of events to build tension was magnificent, I just expected harrowing and got thrilling instead.
