That future Ted acted like a complete cunt was beyond ridiculous, but even if that hadn't happened, the episode still wouldn't have been fine. I think they listened to the audience, though. Very few liked Barney's change. When he said "why can't I just be me?" it was like he was saying it to the showrunners who felt they needed to change him. Barney's storyline was my favorite in the finale.

I definitely prefer the old Barney, but after many years of character development, it just seems silly to change him back to the Barney of season 1 in the blink of an eye. Also, the old womanizing Barney was in his late 20s / early 30s and most of his stories included the other members of the gang in one way or another. When they reverted him back, all of his friends were now busy with their families, and Barney just ended up looking like some creepy "old" loner, unable to move on with his life. So, as much as I preferred the old Barney, I still really hated his finale storyline.

Yeah everyone prefers old Barney but when you spend around 2 seasons changing a character and then spent an ENTIRE SERIES on the wedding that proves he changed it was a bullshit move. And a move they've known all along they were going to have to make, its not a fan service thing at all. Barney has to split with Robin (who apparently hasn't had a man since despite being massively successful and fucking gorgeous). I seen someone call it How I Regret Your Mother which just about sums it up. How I met someone who could give me babies because Robin couldn't.

The thing that they spent an entire season on a wedding that lasted (for the audience) five minutes or so is the thing that bothers me the most. The season wasn't very good, it felt really dragged out. Meanwhile, the finale was full of stories that could be used this season. That's why I liked the finale, but not the season. They saved all the good parts for one episode, and the season suffered for it.

Also, future Ted made it pretty clear he didn't regret meeting Tracy, so that's just absurd.

Also, yes Barney did have to split with Robin. With that being said, he didn't have to become old Barney again. That's why it's a fan service to change him back. Although it would be criticized anyway. If he stayed "new Barney", people would have continued to say how lame Barney became in the end. Now they say it was silly to change him back.

In short, I liked the finale, but really didn't like this season.

Anyway just because you have the footage of the kids saying that stuff doesn't mean you have to use it. Should've ended at the train station scene under the umbrella.

In the end i was so tired of the whole series anyway - that's the problem with shows that run too long. Characters get squeezed empty and turned inside out during the course of the series that in the end the whole thing becomes ridiculous. But Tracy dying and Ted ending up with Robin was simply ... unnecessary. Why kill a great character and make Ted end up with a worse person for no reason? Was there any point to it? No. Was it somehow cleverly foreshadowed in previous seasons? No. Just a pointless attempt to get a final tear jerker moment which failed.

Scrubs finale was a perfect example on how to end a series.

It was the term, and more precisely it was the "hrmmm". I see how someone can be described with the word "eergh", but I've never heard anyone call someone else eergh hrmmm.

Urban dic tells me "hrmmm" is the sound you make when you take an extremely pleasurable dump, and that sounds about right. Which really just made it all the more confusing.

Seen two seasons of Veep in the last couple of months. It's not bad, but not as good as the Thick of It I don't think.

All the actors in it are good though, so maybe the ideas are just played out for me.

veep is better than most of the current crop of american comedies. it has potential to be better, and the new season started pretty well

Yeah, I appreciate the subtly different mix of characters and I'm enjoying JLD's lead performance.

It's rather bright and colourful though. I'd like it better if it felt a bit more sordid.
