Just finished the last ever episode of Poirot. Sad to see it end, but it had to happen eventually.

Massive respect to David Suchet, 24 years of work with one character, he has made Poirot well and truly his. I bet Christie would be proud.

Nearly done with The Sopranos. It's right up there with The Wire and Breaking Bad. Those three can't be topped IMO.

AMC have confirned that they will do a show based on Preacher. They're bound to fuck up worse than they did with The Walking Dead.

Not sure it's easily possible to not fuck that up to be honest. Particularly stuff like its aesthetic treatment of Heaven. Casting will be fairly easy though.

Yeah. Just thinking about how they will try to portray all the stuff with Genesis and angels and demons fucking and the Saint of Killer's march out of hell makes me cringe.

Television just isn't made for the kind of tone and premise that Ennis and Dillon adopted in the comic in my opinion. It's such a wonderfully fucked up story that you're bound to lose the point in translation. How do you even begin to portray the evolution of characters like Jesse, Starr and the Saint of Killers? I can see them cutting most of the really outrageous stuff (the day I see a hillbilly actually fuck a chicken on television I'll admit that this medium is going places), but Preacher's brilliance lies in how it embraces the ridiculous over-the-top premise and extracts an unseen depth from it. It expands in all directions at once. It's all about the power of metaphors and irregular storytelling whereas TV is all about the power of drama and sequenced narratives. It found the perfect medium right from the go. Just leave it be.

I don't know, I'd be down if it reached the level of a glorious failure. They would need to settle early on what differentiates it aesthetically from crap like Supernatural.

Dillon's art for Heaven had a little bit the feel of an illuminated mediaeval manuscript. Doing those exposition parts as carefully designed animations might work. Then go the full John Huston for the visuals in the main storyline.

I just can't see how it'd work out. HBO gave up trying after years of failed scripts, and they have become the embodiment of so many of the very things that Preacher satirises. Can't for the life of me see how AMC would find better solutions to the problems it poses. The stuff with D'Aronique and Masada will probably be completely rewritten, for instance. No bulimic 1200-pound pope who likes to puke in public and drags a deranged, shit-flinging monkey boy of a Jesus Christ around. And would God be the same self-righteous cunt of a villain who preys on the feeling of being needed? Can you even do that on American television?

If I were to hazard a guess I'd say that we would get a fairly straight-forward show about a guy who's angry at God and goes looking for him with his newly found divine powers. Too serious in tone and not heavy enough in terms of themes.

You're probably right. Although I'd say the chicken-fucking will definitely be in there.

Seth Rogen's alleged involvement is not a great sign.

Feel a bit disappointed that Jo and I never finished Deadwood, we kinda lost momentum with it midway through the final series. But the first two seasons of that show were fantastic stuff. And I didn't even like Westerns!

Up to Season 5 of Mad Men and I think I prefer it to all of those shows but The Wire.
