My mother was an anti-vaxxer. I understood her reasons, it's not as cut and dried as ya'll are making out. What Qwiss says is really the crux of the matter: it's selfish to refuse vaccination when available and when you know the contents, the risks, and the reward on a societal level. A kid getting a vaccination is a small sacrifice for society as a whole, not just for them to be immune to a disease. There's nothing wrong with accepting this as the reality, in my opinion. I myself got sick from the TB vaccine as a baby, my mom was against them ever since.
The idea that you're actively harming your children by not vaccinating them is not quite right. Rather, they are reaping the rewards of a society that uses vaccines, without contributing to the cause. It is selfishness, and honestly, I find it hard to totally condemn them. The misinformation and the rage that surrounds the issue is a bit baffling and has little bearing on the reality. Folks are trying to rationalize their fear and their selfishness, this is normal. How they rationalize it is absolutely up for debate. I do, however, think that folks deserve our understanding, or at least, our attempts to understand. It's the only way to work through it. You don't get very far with shit-flinging, prejudice, and a holier-than-thou attitude.
