You fundamentally misunderstand the role of the assistant manager.
Like Pat Rice before him Wenger wanted someone who understood the club through and through and probably most of its employees too!
As I said Wenger doesn't want someone else's tactical imput (except that fucking parasite Primorac.
Stevens role is just to liaise between Wenger and the other coaches and players.

Bould's under 18 team were extremely successful playing exactly the way Wenger wants his teams to be set up to be. And, even if his role is now to manage the motivational side of the team and liaise with the other coaches, that's still not evidence of a rift. You're going to have to do a lot better than arm chair psychology from Australia to convince anyone that is the case.

Also you're not aware of anything Primorac does. No one is.

They weren't extremely successful as I remember it. Just above average with odd standout performer.

Progress by all means- But thats not what we were discussing.
Clrnc said that I'd be calling for Boulds head if he didn't do well enough immediately thereby portrying me as impatient- I think I've been extremely patient (as we all have) its just that my patience ran out longer ago.

They won the league title and the FA Youth cup. Relatively speaking, they've been quite successful. Certainly the best (in relative terms) batch of youngsters we had come through.

This has nothing to do with intelligence. It borders on speculation and third hand information.

Being a close associate of Wenger doesn't necessitate that he has a hand in all of Wenger's decisions - otherwise he'd be paid a lot more. That isn't to say they aren't ideologically similar, of course they are, but the extent of his role is not clear to anyone. Maybe he's the one that keeps things from going overboard or worse than they already are. Or maybe he's the main culprit for the rot. No one knows. Certainly we know he has limited influence on Wenger match day tactics and in game decisions, because if he was, he'd be at Wenger's elbow instead. That failure is Wenger's alone to bear.

So provide some primary information otherwise we aren't getting anywhere.

Regardless of whatever Bould has done at youth level, whether him and Wenger are close or not ideologically or physically he has no managing experience at all. He also hasn't done anything at youth level that would make you expect a Guardiola like entrance to coaching.

We'd struggle to attract or even keep our big names with him at the helm, one of the very few positives that Wenger still has is his reputation which we should look to immediately replace with another big name. Also the only thing we know about Bould managing at the top level from a couple years ago when he stood in for Wenger during his CL touchline ban is that he's even more frustrating with his late substitutions.

Fuck big names fuck reputations, Leicester and Tottenham are top of the league Sheiky Utd and Chelsea are nowhere.
If Bould took over we would get a honeymoon bounce from the fact that hes not Wenger and players would want to impress.

Pellegrini gets a bad rap here but for stability and going for trophies he isn't a particularly bad option.

You forget that at both City and Madrid he's worked with a club where he doesn't have a particular say in transfers.

In his first season's at Madrid they got their highest ever points.
In his first season at City he won the league.
In his first season at Malaga he qualified them for the Cl. Who did he bring into Malaga in his first season? 2 players that still start for us- Cazorla and Monreal.

I'm not saying he's perfect. He's not the best tactically.

BUT he's a good option.

Unfortunately we give Wenger so much power that he can choose to leave when he wants and that particular moment might not be the best period as far as alternatives are concerned.

About 6 months ago every single one of the managers on the title of the thread was available. In one year IF that is when Wenger leaves all of them would be just finishing their first year's at their respective clubs. 2 of them at rival PL clubs.

Equally you could argue that he's similarly soft on his team as Wenger is and it's the pressure of managing clubs like City and Madrid which are results driven that got him any kind of success. I like him though, he seems like one of the good guys in football - I just think he's too close to what we have in terms of breeding a team that choke at the worst moments

Pellegrini seems a really classy guy, just like Wenger. I agree with those who are of the opinion that he is too similar to Wenger. Good manager though.

Yeah, I don't think we should be handing out free favours to people either just because they were great players for us. Tone was well annoyed that we didn't offer him a job as a coach for instance, but what has he ever proven? There would have been opportunities for him at lower tiers within the club but Adams pretty much expected a first team job to be handed to him right away. When it didn't happen he had a good moan in the papers. Then he jumped at the chance of managing Portsmouth instead at a time when he wasn't ready and it probably crashed his career.

If Bould wants to be a great manager he needs more than one man's perspective. He played under Wenger and now he's coaching under Wenger too. It's not necessarily a great thing. I'm surprised Biggus is so eager on this one considering the history.
