If the goal was his fault it's only because he should have passed to Bellerin on the overlap. He did well to force Barkley wide into a crappy shooting position, was a nothing shot and he got lucky.

Agree with Mirth though, he had a solid game. Not sure why the vultures are circling.

I've always thought his real potential is at centre midfield.

He had a poor first half, not just because of the goal we conceded, but a better second one. It's not as bad as his last few outings but come on, that's not a solid performance.

He didn't have too many weak moments and in the 2nd half he had a few strong runs opening up Everton.

I don't agree he is one dimensional. We have seen what he is capable of against much stronger opponents. He needs to find his mojo and I think he will with a run of games.

I'm sure the comment about the goal being Ox's fault was made in jest.
He did well today especially after watching his other performances this season.

For me it is ridiculous to suggest that a shot taken from 17 meters out makes Chambo responsible for us conceding. He tracked back really well on the resulting counter attack but, just as Tim points out, he didn't actually do too well in the last instance before the goal. I also think Gabriel should have got a lot closer to Barkley as soon as he saw Chambo was back to cover.

All in all, I think Chambo had a decent game, sprinkled with moments why I think he is going to be a top player. That run down the middle was fantastic, and had we had a striker a tad less cumbersome than Giroud he would have had an assist after a great sprint down the right followed by an absolute peach of a cross.

To clarify - Chambo should have either gone hard all the way to close Barkley down, knowing that Gabriel was there as back up, or he should have followed through on his tracking back to tuck in behind Gabriel so HE could have closed down Barkley properly. Now, I think Gabriel should have closed Barkley down anyway, but Chambo didn't really help him.

I don't think anyone was blaming him for the goal. But he did literally the same thing on another occasion in the match too. Took a shot and had it blocked when Bellerin was in a great position. I don't think it's this match either, he does it quite often in all games. There's just no room for making the same errors and not learning at this level, which is why Szcz finds himself loaned out.

Chambo isn't ready, but I want to see how his game improves with an extended run in the side.

Decision making and execution in the final third is lacking.

Today's errors I will put down to him trying to force the game since he hasn't been starting.

But it did cost us a goal - can't be having that.

His body language is also not very convincing.

It's quite cruel to refer to Giroud as "cumbersome" after his excellent performance yesterday, in which he showed good touch, finishing ability, strength and the ability to improvise. The only thing he lacks is pace. He certainly wasn't a reason that Chamberlain didn't rack up stats.

i think its more a criticism of his decision making.. on sky henry echoed my words from the matchday thread - if he passes to bellerin we dont concede that goal. when your fullback is exposed you cant be shooting into a thicket of defenders. maybe bellers didnt call for it, but its not the first time chambos dodgy decision making has lead to clear cut chances for the opposition

You just want him to have a epic game even if its by fluke, as Ox like a few others in our team, is a confidence player. A quick boost of self belief could do wonders for him.

Exactly, as soon as he was in that position I knew he was going to shoot. He's just been in a bad run of form in and out of the side for so long that he's forcing it. I was more frustrated at the time that it cost us an opportunity for a goal with Bellerin free on the wing with plenty of bodies in and around the box. That they went up the other end and scored can't be laid at his feet but it was a naive thing to do.

That being said I feel he did have a pretty good game despite that moment. He was tackled a few times when thinking too much about what to do but at least he was a bit safer with his play in our own half and kept it tidy. He also defended a lot better than he has recently. Up top he had some very nice runs and a couple of almost perfectly weighted passes in behind. He'll get there with time as long as he doesn't get any long term injuries and works hard. I'm sure of it. What I'm worried about is us dropping points whilst he finds his feet.

I wouldn't say he gave a decent or solid performance but he did have an improved performance compared to his recent form. He still needs to do much better but it was a start.

We can only compare him to his recent performances though qs, and relative to those, and despite one or two poor decisions on his part, he had a very decent game.

Well no you can compare him to the rest of the team too. Thats why I said he was better than recent games but still sub par. I expect more from him if he's to keep getting games. He has to improve in upcoming games for me. If not I'd be looking to try someone else. Probably Joel. We have to give Ox a few games to try and find some form though before we do that.

First half it was like he was a youth player making his debut, second half he improved to the level he should be playing regularly at.

Yes, he should be doing a lot better, and although I'd prefer he wasn't trying to find his form in starting lineup in the first place, I don't mind as long as he's not being a liability at the back and provides a few bright sparks in attack.
