bet wenger's been watching him since his under 12 days etc etc etc

I'd have put scouts on him too if he was a talent already when he was under 12 days old tbf

Bayern players classy as ever, blaming the pitch and bad luck for the loss. German reporters agreeing and calling Atlético a "disgusting opponent", fuck off you twats

i wish someone would ask those cunts how is atletico disgusting? because they aren't a bunch of fairies like the rest of the champions league elite?

That'd be pretty close to their actual explanation if you asked them but really it's just thinly veiled 'patriotism' which for some reason in Germany always turns very ugly very quick. Reporters and pundits in France, Spain or England also root for their compatriots on live TV but nobody does it as aggressively and relentlessly as the Germans.

Love athletico, shows everything you want to see from a team to really feel proud of them.

What a scouting system as well. All the forwards they have lost and replaced, courtois then obliak, fantastic. This was a club in utter dire straights a few years back as well, Leeds United esque issues with debt and unpaid taxes.

Makes me upset when I think of how little respect I have for our arsenal team and their mentality on the pitch.

What's with the 'athletico' stuff around here? What's next, 'afletico'???

Atletico under Simeone is yet another club that highlights how busted Arsenal is under Wenger. Far less resources but with a manager that knows exactly what he wants and ensures he gets the RIGHT players to do it. I envy them big time.

Commentator just said Agüero has gone now seven hours without a single shot on goal. That's Giroud levels of bad

Hart is the only one who looked up to it. Given Real will get Ronaldo back next week I'm pretty sure they'll go through, will probably another Madrid derby in the final.

Aguero's never ever Giroud levels of bad, only if you consider just the stats and don't watch him play.

Nobody is Giroud level of bad this season, but Aguero has been pretty underwhelming in big games.

Agüero has one goal in 11 games against the combined might of Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Madrid. He had 32 touches, no shots at goal, won no headers and made 20 successful passes against Madrid. More interesting, as the competition narrows to its end point, is the fact that Agüero has gone four Champions League matches without a single shot on target.

One thing I love about Simeone is that no matter who he plays, they all look good in his system, especially defensively. It shows us what a well organised, well drilled team can do. On paper, their players are all inferior to the elite teams but their performances are up there with any teams. Just look at the decision to start Savic over the excellent Lucas, it didn't affect them one bit and Savic the perennial flop looked world class. Make no mistake, Griezmann wouldn't look this good either under Wenger. Simeone puts it pefectly before the game, it's not who has been the better soldiers, but how you use the soldiers.

The stats don't like about Atletico and I don't think I have ever seen a team defend this well and yet score a decent amount of goals. 12 clean sheets in last 13 european home matches with just 1 goal conceded, 21 cleansheets in La Liga with just 16 goals conceded. That's not all, they don't even allow you space and time to shoot. They concede on average of just 2.5 shots per match and those shots come from 21 yards away.

"We enquired about him but were told he was not for sale."

"We had Welbeck, Giroud, Walcott, Campbell and Chamberlain that can play in the same position."

"we had bought sanogo, and we had world class players already in theo ox and also we dont want to kill akpom"

Fantastic goal from Saul! Superb result for Atletico, no away goals for Bayern.

Simeone really is remarkable. Another clean sheet.

How many Atletico players would get in Bayern's team? 2 (Griezman and Godin)? Maybe one of Saul/Koke for Alonso, who really shouldn't be getting into Bayern's first XI at this point either but that's neither here nor there

In fairness, that comparison discredits Simeone, he's arguably the best manager in the world and not many could keep up with him.

It's difficult to give a real answer to this question as Simeone makes such a huge difference to the players he works with.

Bit unfair to his team too as even though they might not be as talented as some of their counterparts at the big 3 you can't tell conversely how many of their teams would get into Simeone's team, ie if they have the attitude to match the talent. Vietto is a good example that talent alone won't get you far under him.

On current form I'd take Atlético's whole back five over Bayern's. Saul, Koke and Griezmann are in with a good shout as well, might even pick Gabi over Xabi

Was just thinking about how Simeone's team just defies all common beliefs that fans have regarding age of footballers. They had 2 30+ full backs, a 32 year old reject striker(Torres) and two 32 and 30 year old midfielders in a 2 man midfield (Gabi and Fernandez), and still managed to win.

Diego is the biggest don in football history.

Oblak over Neuer? I just couldn't.

Jose Mourinho selling Filipe Luis is never going to stop being funny

Accepting £16m for De Bruyne who has since gone for £50m, £28m for Lukaku who will go for £50m+ and just giving Matic away in the Luiz deal to then buy him back for £20m+.

Jose lost a bit of his fear factor over the last 12 months.

If they reach the final they have to be the oldest team to do so since Milan back in 2007.
