The competition is better in the Norwegian league as well, anyone can win it. Don't think it makes it a better league.
Rise of the rest?

Well maybe if you live another 30 years and watch as many games as i have you can laugh all you want.
Biggus wrote:Don't know why La Liga is mentioned its not even a proper competition.
No Spanish side could succeed in the PL its too fast physical lasts too long with no break.
Spanish sides (ie Real and Barca) only look better in the CL because their domestic games are so easy.
It's not just Real and Barcelona though, even the mid table Spanish sides do better in the CL and Europa league in recent years.

What would watching 30 years of Premier League help when the quality of the leagues is constantly changing, and what would it help if you don't watch the league you're comparing it to? Surely someone who has watched both leagues for two years could compare their current qualities better than someone who has watched Premier League for 70 years.

But the level of quality is clearly better in the EPL.
And the level of quality in La Liga is clearly better than in the EPL. Not by as much of course but still distinctly better.
Not aiming this at you but I really can't understand why some EPL fans seem butthurt about La Liga and always have to bring it up when they don't even watch the league. As Quincy says how is anyone supposed to take your opinion on the matter serious when you watch maybe one clasico every few years?
to anyone suggesting the quality of the premier league is better than la liga
Yeah well you know I've played in hot climates and cold climates and I can tell you that the differing styles emerged to suit them so you are comparing apples with oranges.
It's simply impossible to play sustainable high tempo physical football in hotter weather but I believe it is the most exciting and effective way of playing.
Leicester today again made a mockery of all the possession stat monkeys with their free flowing counter attacking football, they are starting to remind me of Clough's Nottm Forest team of the late 70's.

Well I admit I've only watched English football for 22 years since it was invented in 1992.
You sound like Wenger
- “I have been a manager for 30 years and have had 1,500 games at the top level, so I know what I am doing.

Gary Neville is the perfect example of this. Disses the competition in La Liga week in week out saying the bottom teams are week, feeble and just surrenders to the top 2, now finding out that it is actually competitive and not that easy.

Be careful how you choose your enemy, for you will come to resemble him.
But a wise man gets more use from his enemies than a fool from his friends.

Bilbao play what most would say a very English type of football, a few years ago especially when people called them the Stoke of Spain. Osasuna were also playing a very high tempo physical football for a couple seasons before they were relegated, Rayo are another example.
It has nothing to do with the weather but the lack of tactical training employed in England which leads to a much higher amount of turnovers causing the game to get more hectic and frenzy. This is not just my opinion; many players who came from Spain or Italy have remarked on it.
The inability of a higher percentage of players in the EPL to trap a ball or play accurate passes and the generally riskier type of football encourages this even more. You have to hand it to the marketing guys of the EPL though, they managed to take this vice and turn it into a laudable virtue.
Serious question Jonesy, why do you watch it then?
Because I like watching football. I don't share your partisan thinking of either/or, I can enjoy watching La Liga and the EPL knowing that I rate one higher than the other.
Plus Arsenal play in the EPL so on an Arsenal forum you'd expect that to be a reason too. I've answered that question several times Biggus, it's getting boring.
Hey I can understand that- As I said your football is somewhat dictated by your climate, you can't run and challenge for 90 minutes in 30 deg heat and you can't play slide rule passes in a rain sodden swamp.
rain sodden swamp ... again this isn't the past. premier league grounds are generally pretty good these days, ours doesn't even stand out as much to me anymore.
Err football is played outside the PL Meaty and English grounds are softer and it rains more during games than say southern Europe.
To argue that climate does not affect playing style is just to be contrarian, its irrefutable that weather affects games and I will not be continuing this discussion.
