Genuinely feel star wars, the entire original series from New Hope to Empire Strikers back, to return of the Jedi, should be recreated for the modern audience.

Interesting ANDOR fact … some incidents in the first season are based on communist history. For instance the Aldhani robbery is based on the Tiflis (now Tbilisi) robbery that young Stalin planned and executed.

Apparently the inspiration goes back to Gilroy reading the book YOUNG STALIN when it was published (the book came out in 2007 after MICHAEL CLAYTON was released).

Ok, yes, the final 5 or 6 episodes of Andor were great. Thanks for the encouragement to keep going. We finished last night and started watching Rogue One straight away. Only got part way in before we got tired and went to bed.

POKER FACE has a schtick that's getting a little bit old with Natasha Lyonne, but it's amazing just how far superior it is to Johnson's flabby work on GLASS ONION. Very good bottle episode writing and it's quite a lot of fun.

love poker face, but you're right it's meandered a bit since the main narrative thread was tied up.

Gazza M Yeah, they've turned the Charlie Cale factor up to eleven to compensate, it's sort of fine, just has to deliver exceptional writing every episode. I do enjoy all the nostalgic big rig, ham radio, Weather Underground, beef rub, stage magician, creature effects preoccupations and plot hooks of the writing.

Just finished Andor, what a masterpiece. Really need to get round to watching Rogue One again while the series is still fresh in my head! Really pisses you off when you see what can be done with the Star Wars IP and the complete rubbish we have got instead.

I am not a Star Wars fan in the slightest, but Andor goes down as the best TV show I've ever watched. Something's finally come along and dislodged Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979) from the top spot in my rating. Very much appreciate Gilroy kept all the Star Warsy crap like jedi, the force, yoda, Skywalkers, etc. away from it. The first series also takes cues from The Battle of Algiers in the best way.

I, too, only watched the show because of word of mouth recommendation.

Dept Q was really good. The mystery wasn't too hard to solve but that probably wasn't really the point. Matthew Goode is always watchable and he has some great lines.

Asterix I liked it but thought it dragged in the second half. Either it should have been shorter or should have had 2 investigations spread over the season for Dept Q. Not enough of the other investigation either.

Qwiss yeah that's fair, and I think that's something that applies to nearly every tv series these days. The show is based on a book, and there are about 10 in the series, so I guess the other investigation is a thread through more than one of the books.

@Asterix and Qwiss -- what's the balance between humor, drama and thriller?

Is it a dark thriller?
Or is it darker with gore/torture?

I read one odd review that suggested it was darker than the trailer gives it off to be.

MistaT as the lads said there is on fairly dark thread to it but its not pushing for realism much and I found the tone was light enough for such a story line (trying not to give much away here). I'd liken it a bit to Slow Horses which had heavy elements like murder, terrorists attacks, etc but the tone is still fairly humorous. There is basically imprisonment part which has no light elements but also doesn't hit too hard in terms of misery (I actually just found it a bit tedious after a while) and then the narrative around the team investigating is pretty much the main show and that's always shot through with a bit of humour. Its certainly not the typical pure misery British procedural show like Broadchurch or Happy Valley. My wife watched and liked it and she generally hates anything that's too dour.

It's fairly dark and there are one or two moments of graphic injury - heads being attacked in some detail. And without wanting to give too much away there is a thread running through that deals with imprisonment and psychological torture. But I'm reasonably squeamish and don't like things really dark and I dealt with it all fine. It's not as gory as Reacher for instance. But it is probably fair to say it's a little bit darker than the trailer in a few scenes.

But mostly it's about the characters and relationships between the investigators, and the backstory to the victim. I'd call it a darkish police procedural (rather than thriller) with some moments of humour thrown in. It's a good, typical British crime show - and I say that as someone who loves British crime shows. The books are written by a Dane so there is definitely a Scandi-noir feel as well.

Totally agree with Asterix. A few scenes of fairly graphic violence, but the psychologic aspects were more difficult as the series progressed. It's not a gory, action type show. It mainly comes in a few isolated scenes to do with the specific crimes, rather than being a mainstay or tool of the storytelling.

Has anyone watched any of the Danish film adaptions? Wondering if they're worth trying to get to see?
