Finished Shogun. My what a gem. Well acted, well written and gobsmackingly beautiful. That the finale deliberately denied us a huge fight was also fitting of the broader theme. I've come across comments saying that it finishes off well without leaving us wanting more - I can't say I agree. I definitely want more. Spinoffs, please.
Bodies was recommended here and I thought to watch it. Not bingeworthy but decent fare for a time-travel malarkey show. Liked the actress for the present-day detective. Maybe needed a few more layers of intrigue to really be great.
Also finished Freiren: Beyond Journey's End. Maybe I was misled by the high praise it gets. I appreciate the fresh angle, but it inevitably hits all the same shounen tropes despite the premise. Ok watch but also quite missable.
Currently watching Dungeon Meshi, which I am completely biased as it is based on my favourite non-drama manga. Character driven action-comedy with a good dose of tonal whiplash. Marcille embodies the new tragicomic fail-girl archetype and Laios is maybe the only likeable genuinely autistic protagonist for a show like this around. Much like the monster recipes that form its core structure the writing adeptly handles comedy, drama, action and world-building.
