This seasons TWD is pretty good. It feels fresher, less baggage.

On another note, got the last episode of Justified left to watch. I almost don't want to watch it, it will be all over 🙁

Funny thing is I was pretty worn out by it all at the end of season 5. I don't know if it's because I left it so long to watch this one but it's been pretty good.

You can tell that it's one of HBO's older shows, it's not always consistent and sometimes a little rough around the edges. Still highly entertaining and very easy to get into.

So you were shouting at the show, not the characters. I mean the characters don't know they're are in a show, they aren't supposed to be anticipating a twist.

Nah its just better because its stopped spinning its wheels. I watched as it aired and season 5 definitely dragged a bit.

I never could get myself into Oz, I found the way it was presented a little annoying. I think I got through about a dozen episodes before dropping it.

Finished Justified, the final season was enjoyable and so was the finale, I liked the happy ending. If I were to be critical I'd say it was all a bit of an anti-climax. Other than the last 20 mins it was all, including the last episode, like pretty much every other season.

Justified, which I pretty much liked, nevertheless peaked during the second season for me with the Bennetts saga.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought as well, it's clearly not as serious as The Wire etc which is why it's so easy to get into. It certainly is more than just a soap just looking at the topic of the show (although I understand why you use the term soapy) but in terms of plot it's not a patch on shows that followed, it's carried more by characters like Said or Adebisi.

Read somewhere that it's also one of the first shows with that much graphic content, I can certainly imagine that murders and rapes weren't as explicit and commonplace in TV shows in the 90s.

Yep all good points. Even The Sopranos in it's first season was a lot more goofy and light-hearted than what it would eventually become.

I say that although the shows portrayal of Tony's depression late in season 1 was masterful, one of the highlights of the show for me.

Its soapy in that its melodramatic, and even the excessive violence you mention plays into that. Definitely the violence was a new thing for TV. Cable drama wasn't a thing at that point and network TV sure as hell weren't showing regular gay rapes.
