Comes as no surprise really to hear that TV is no closer to returning than he was prior to his operation.
First time I've heard it from Vermaelen himself though.

It must be a nightmare for him.

I do not know when I will be back.
At first they said I would need four or six weeks after the operation. But it soon became apparent that it would last longer. I’m not even in training. I’m still working on my exercises to come back. This is a tough mental test.

Our medical team is crap. Not sure if it's down to shoddy preperation, shoddy injury prevention or shoddy injury managemnet, but this many injuries, season after season, cant just be down to bad luck.

Yes, looks like it was a big and unnecessary gamble that did not pay off.
We all feared it and now it's confirmed.
It does make you wonder what the hell Wenger was thinking.
I remember at the time a comment from him where he said he was waiting for something to "click" in his head.

He will drive us all mad.

You dont mess around with central defence which is a key an area as any. Wenger's being farting around with it for years.

Can't believe Koscielny and Squillaci was given how little time to settle into our side. Deserve some credit. Vermaelen virtually played no part this season.

Deserve some credit for what? Last season, Vermaelen was Winning from day 1.

I thought the conclusion was - Sell Squillaci, he's the worst defender we've ever had, Koscielny's best defender we've ever signed and brilliant at everything?

Me? I think Koscielny looks like a very talented, but very, very raw young defender who doesn't happen to be that young.

I have no confident prediction as to how he'll turn out in a year or two's time, I'm just disappointed that, when our defence needed maturity, reliability and focus, we went for the exact opposite last summer. Most people I know think, more or less, the same.

they can buy all the gps sports bras they want but until they get rid of the current trainers and doctors we'll always have this "bad luck". just scout the world for doctors and trainers the way you do for players, passport is irrelevant right? all the money we lose paying injured players and missing out on the financial rewards of winning things could be used to build a world class medical operation (facility and staff) that would make milan blush, but we'll just continue to rue our luck and do the same shit over and over again and keeping our fingers crossed.

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

Meatwad, it's not bad luck for the most part. We have 3 players who are brittle - van Persie, Fabregas and Walcott - and everyone else just gets injured as normal. Get rid of those 3 guys and we will stop talking about injuries derailing our season.

Unfortunately, those are also our three of our best attacking players. Hard to imagine selling all three and replacing with anything like comensurate quality.

i do believe in injury prone players, i've seen my nba team (rockets) destroyed by them over the years (yao ming and tracy mcgrady), but that was due to them being physical freaks (yao a 7'6" center carrying 310 lbs and mcgrady a 6'8"-9" shooting guard and doing things someone that size shouldn't be able to do athletically.

our players aren't physical freaks so i don't get it. i just think our injury prevention methods are coming up short. a player can eventually become beyond helping (michael owen) but we get these players so young that we have a lot of influence on the training practices that will be ingrained in them. we can do better ... identify the problem and come up with a solution. cesc's hamstring isn't actually made out of string so find out why he keeps straining or worse pulling it instead of just 3-4 weeks to heal and then let's see what happens.

I think most could agree with that, I know I can. It's when you say he's just plain rubbish and an idiot to boot that I have to disagree.

On the injury front, more and more I'm starting to believe that we're one of the few sides that stays the right side of the law when it comes to performance enhancing/injury preventing drugs.

You say that Ricky, but we never had these sorts of injury problems before. The first xi of the invincibles played 30 league games or more.

It's our style of play, ball to man not ball to space that makes us sitting targets, also too many passes too many repetitive twists and turns.

Anyway as regards Vermaelen and DJ we need another top class international central defender, so some guy from ligue 2 it is then.......

i agree, it's too many years in a row now. wenger needs to pull his thumb out and fire the entire team. hire a consultant to help us poach better medical personnel.

this season's gone exactly as i've feared, based on previous experience. knocked out of all the cups in 2 weeks, vermaelen out for the season, dip in league form is now forthcoming. the only positive surprise was van persie coming back so soon, but i wouldn't be at all surprised for him to suffer a relapse of that knee injury.
