The best thing about Cech is that he's a big game player. Even in his less impressive seasons, he always pulled out of the bag in the big games or finals.

Feels great to have a top class goalkeeper again. Wouldn't say it was our biggest need going into this season but, clucking bell, it feels great to have a top class goalkeeper!

He does what a great signing should do he takes the team up a level. Same with ozil, and Sanchez. We could be saying similar things about Gabriel soon. Hopefully we get another signing like this for Christmas.

Of course but it is your first competitive game and to make two blunders like that could really dent your confidence. Even a few Arsenal fans were thinking Chelsea have sold us a duff keeper but Cech has been around the block. He responded like a big player should and it's great having a top class keeper again. Since Jens left something we have missed because for 15+ years before that we always had top class keepers.

Speaking of that West Ham game, Cech talked a bit about it recently:

He told Sport magazine: "It was just a coincidence, in a way. We were all raring to go and then the first half was really slow. There was a bit of a lack of rhythm and you think: ‘Let's put a bit of energy in here.’

"So when that ball came [a free-kick by West Ham’s Dimitri Payet], I was thinking: ‘Let’s go and get the ball and make something happen.’ A fast counter-attack, or whatever.

"And this was where the mistake came, because there was no way I could have got this ball.

"I wanted to do something extra, but this usually goes wrong.

"You shouldn’t do things that are extra; you should do things the precise way and not try to do something you don’t have to.

"You learn in every moment, even at 33. And, in a way, you surprise yourself because this has never happened to me before. I’m always good at keeping myself focused on doing what I need to do."

A lot of Arsenal fans underestimate Cech. He is a genuine World Class goal keeper.

He has more years as a top Premiership player than the likes of Vieria and Thierry Henry.

How many players do we have that 1) Have ever won the Premiership 2) Have ever won the CL 3) Have been voted MOM in a CL final. 4) Has over 100 caps for their country.

Cech is a living legend and we are lucky to have him.

What Sicario sad. We have made two massive leaps from Szczesny to Ospina to Cech. Even better k owing that Chelsea could use him now. In the summer, their fans were on radio shows lauding Mourinho for his goalie transfers. They're quiet now.

True but he's also made a fair few big saves already this season.

All Arsenal keepers make big saves: even toilet blokes like chesney and almunia.

Cech is world class but he has done nothing here to live up to that billing. He hasn't been exceptional by any reasonable measure.

I think he has made the difference in more than one game myself. That Martial save just before half time for instance. A goal there could have made the second half very uncomfortable for us. He also made a few top saves in the Liverpool game, where we might have gone on to lose the game, and he without him we would have likely gone 2 down at Leicester. All in all, those saves alone have won us points I would think.

The 2 saves against Liverpool is probably the best we have seen from an Arsenal keeper since Lehmann did against Raul in 2006.

You could make a case that he's just doing what he's there to do for the rest but he definitely saved our bacon in the first half of the Liverpool game.

Anyway, doing the basics consistantly well is equally important and he's been doing just that.

That's what being a class goalie is all about - focus and consistency with the basics.

Even with Jens I wasn't entirely sure, but Cech has me fully confident in the goalie position for the first time since Seaman.

yeah jens never entirely filled me with confidence. he was ok for the invincibles, and was great in our 05/06 run to the cup final. always felt he had a bad ricket in him, which i don't feel with cech. after his 'cold' start against west ham, he's been very stable.

Cech has now started to show the sort of form which, if he maintains it, will make him very good value.
