Cech need to get used to playing with our defence. He doesn't like coming out for crosses and is generally not used to coming out for dangerous situations, sweeping play away because Chelsea never play a high line. When they did under AVB he was pretty awful. Once he is accustomed to it he will be fine I reckon.
In this instance it seems like it was more to do with Cech wanting the defence to give him that kind of space during the free kick so he could come out and collect rather than having 100 players in the box. Another thing that gives credence to this is Cech actually started on the edge of the 6 yard box when the free kick was being taken.
Thing is we do usually defend high up when facing free kicks but almost never that high. Usually we start at the most just inside or on the 18 yard line. Seemed this time we actually started from outside the box which is pretty stupid especially if we're defending zonally and if the keeper is going to go half heartedly to collect the ball. Plus When defending zonally each defender should be aware of the player ahead of them and if someone if behind that defender then it's up the the defender that is facing that player. How that guy was afforded so much freedom is truly shocking.
So many mistakes leading up the that goal but ultimately the blame has to be Cech's for the poor attempt at collecting the ball especially when it seems that it was on his orders to give himself room to collect that we even started defending from such a high line.
