Isn't Sterling the incumbent FIFA Golden Boy? This is an award that typically rewards proper players (Messi, Isco, Fabregas, etc). The only dodgy candidate has been United's Anderson, who did have some promise before the waffles got the best of him, as evidenced by his 18m pound price tag. Sterling is better than pretty much all of his peers

It's not a FIFA award, the winner is being voted by some newpapers (Bild, Blick, A Bola, l'Équipe, France Football, Marca, Mundo Deportivo, Ta Nea, Sport Express, De Telegraaf, and The Times). The worst winners are probably Anderson, Pato and Balotelli, but all of them had great potential at the time.

I wouldn't fault anyone for picking Balotelli and Pato. Just a reminder that there is no sure thing. We've seen ourselves with much-hyped players such as Szczesny, Nasri, Jeffers, Walcott, Reyes, etc., not quite delivering to the expected level. So, yes, there is a risk with Sterling, but his contributions have been robust for 2 straight seasons in a team where he has lacked consistent playmaking support and been moved around the team like a nomad

Don't care what the stats say.
Sterling is a player who would get into every top team not called Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
That alone shows he is a top player and we are not getting him unless we give them Walcott as all Premiership clubs are flush with money.

I don't think anyone's saying he's not a good player. Definitely nowhere near worth the price Liverpool would want though.

Except the only ones in a top league don't play regularly. Sterling is more proven than all of them.

I get it that he would fill our problematic LWF position with Alexis moving over to the right taking Ox's position but the modern game needs a big squad to cope with injuries which have been our biggest problem. He and Ox are also a few years younger than the likes of Cazorla, Ozil and Alexis so would we won't suffer with the whole squad becoming old at the same time.
Yes i understand your caution as there are negatives such as his reputation for attitude but, on the whole, i feel the positives outweigh the negatives.
I have not given it serious thought as i know Liverpool will sell but not to a rival for top 4 especially us, after the Suarez situation.
On top of that, they will price him out of our range so you will get what you want.

I will just add that by 2012, when Brenton joined liverpool, Sterling was already good enough to make it, whichever club he joined.

I know, I really rate him. But the price Liverpool is branding out is bordering on ridiculous.

Walcott is more of a striker whereas Sterling is more of a winger.

Ozil and Alexis are quite a bit younger than cazorla. Shouldn't be a big problem. There is something about him that I do not like personality wise. I'll be the first to admit it isn't based on anything rational though 😆. He's a good player but you're right I am glad that we probably won't get him. Think we can do better and that Ox may be better one day himself. Don't get me started about the prices being bandied about for Sterling too. We could get Cavani and still have spare change for how much it will cost us to get Sterling. Let that sink in.
