Don't get the Debuchy hate. In hindsight I wouldn't have signed him but at the time it was a reasonable transfer, even if it didn't necessarily upgrade us. He's not a liability like Squillaci was. The biggest criticism of Debuchy is that he can be a bit average at times but we've barely spent any money on him. His transfer fee was around 12m and he's probably on 70k which is entirely reasonable. You can't be like Chelsea/Man City/United in the transfer market and not have some wastage as well.
In fact, if Bellerin had emerged a year earlier, I'm certain we wouldn't have signed Debuchy at all - and I'd rather have Debuchy as cover than Jenkinson (who needs more game time if he is to have a top career) or Chambers.
Welbeck on the other hand, was a bad signing because he's taking up a valuable role in the squad and may potentially influence our decisions in the market.
